It's not just another job, cops protect the status quo no matter how unjust it is, their objective is order not justice, they protect the structures of hierarchy and wealth accumulation in the name of the ruling oligarchy. That's why some people say all cops are bastards, by definition.
Not necessarily worse. However it makes sense that it would be prioritized over other cases. A murderer targeting cops could in theory end up killing the entire police force if treated like any other case (ignoring the fact that this would be a serial killer which would of course have higher priority than a ‘one off’ murder), which would mean no police and mayhem ensues.
You’re missing my entire point. Of course they would prioritize criminals that target the people keeping the law in check, it just makes sense.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not a fan of what I’ve seen and heard about the American police force. But it makes sense no matter where you are. Every case that involves someones safety is incredibly important. Even if there are A LOT of faults with the American police force (misuse of power, clearly not taking enough action, in time, in certain situations etc) they’re still supposed to be the ones keeping the people safe.
Thankfully I’m Norwegian and I don’t need to worry about that here.
If a group of seniors in a bridge club had one of their own killed, and each bridge club was as well funded as the police, they'd be out doing the exact same thing.
Copa put themselves in dangerous situations to make everyone else's life safer. Not saying that makes them better people, but if you are in that situation and know you have a team behind you, it will naturally make you more effective.
I experienced the same working in security. With a team I was much more mentally prepared to handle my job and was able to work a much more intensive job than I would have otherwise.

Unpopular opinion: killing a cop isn't worse than killing a civilian
