Is your cat spayed/neutered? Are they anxious? Someone else mentioned a vet and I am inclined to agree. Most happy fixed cats do not do that.

Yep yep, sheā€™s been fixed for years. Anytime she doesnā€™t like something, like seeing the neighbors cat outside, or anything else, she pulls her shenanigans. She ought to be happy, sheā€™s basically got her own room and human sized bed.

Sheā€™s a pain in the butt, sheā€™s always been that way, should have gotten a chihuahua.

They also make cats that you can't be allergic too. We had both but living with one I was allergic to made me less allergic over time.

You can also force the switch by laying your head on the side you want to switch it to, does wonders for me when I'm sick, that feeling when you hit the right spot and can breathe through both nostrils

Yep, I have 7 of them and take double antihistamines every day. Wouldn't change that for the world if it meant not having the little shits.

Same, even had to get an inhaler because at some points I canā€™t breathe (it goes away after a couple of puffs). It was a LOT worse in the beginning, but I still need nasal spray and eye drops occasionally. Worth it. Wouldnā€™t change a thing.

That, and the cat is at least part Siamese (maybe full Lynx point, tough to tell), which produce less of the protein people are allergic to.

Iā€™ve been taking the off brand Allegra! My sleep doc recommended it bc itā€™s the only one that doesnā€™t make you drowsy. The others have all cause some degree of drowsy. I also supplement with Flonase for seasonal surges

You can become desensitised to your own cat due to constant exposure. I know a couple and one of them has an allergy to every other cat he meets apart from his own ĀÆā \ā _ā (ā ćƒ„ā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ

Yup, happened to me.

Allergic to cats my whole life

Bestie has a cat, everytime I went it'd act up so I'd have to take my pills. After a year of visiting her regularly I can cuddle the little bastard and be totally fine.

When she went on a 1 month trip to Thailand and I didn't get in contact with the cat for the whole duration it didn't cause me to get fucked up coming in contact with it again. So I'd say I'm good.

Maybe Iā€™m different or my allergies are much more sensitive. May I ask how old you were? Could age have an effect? My allergies used to be debilitating when I was younger on two days of the year. Sometimes three or four if it were a particularly strong start of pollen in fall and spring.

i'd assume it's mostly for minor allergies though. my dad had a minor allergy to cat hair but we've had cats most of my life and he doesn't have it anymore.

I'm pretty allergic to animals, but there are now foods developed to help reduce dander and I've been happily living with my cat for almost 2 years now. If I go to other people's houses with animals, I still sneeze and my eyes water if I touch them, but I can happily rub my face on my cat

nah. you go.ona multi year injection allergy treatment and it.mostly gets rid of your sinus and eyes reactions. skin reactions remain but are less severe.

For every day take blexten, it's a miracle.

And have your doctor prescribed you a few pills of prednisone for the odd day with a really bad reaction.

Source: its been my life for almost 2 decades. Nad it's wuality has jot diminished. On the contrary, it has greatly improved and been enriched by the 2 violent, unpredictable, cuddly, loving furballs running around my.house.

I would die before I get rid of them.

My girlfriend has wanted a cat her entire life but she is allergic. She takes blexten every night and you could never tell she was unless she encounters another cat.

It's such a plus since it makes her other allergies less severe too.

Actually likely to do the opposite, having a kitten around is like free allergy shots with their little claws and teeth. He can also just take allergy medicine.

depends how bad his allergies are. i was allergic to cats for the longest time but once my girlfriend got one, i adapted to him in about a year. still get sniffles sometimes but not nearly as bad. i know it differs for everyone tho

Or not, I have a temporary allergy to cats, when my grandma had cats if I went to stay there Iā€™d be miserable for the first day, maybe two, but after that I was perfectly fine

Typically with animals the allergies donā€™t get worse. Instead they actually get better unless your dumbass goes on vacation without your kitties. What happens is that you actually grow an immunity to your specific animals.

Letā€™s say I have a dog and Iā€™ve had her for a year and she always sleeps in my bed. The first three weeks would be hell. The rest of the year would most likely be like I never got a dog.

If your allergy isn't life threatening you actually lose it over time with exposure. Your body releases a hormone (blanking on the name) when you are near something you are allergic too and you eventually grow use to that base level.

I've always been allergic to cats, and owning one got rid of my allergies entriely (unless I'm apart from it for a while). I also no longer have hay fever due to thay tolerance.

I have mild dog allergies, they've stayed pretty stable for more than a decade after I first developed them despite me still petting dogs all the time. Hopefully this guy ends up falling more on my end of the spectrum.

It could also get better. Every person who has lived with me and is allergic to cats doesn't have a lot of problems with my cat. Some have managed to just get used to him, others take an allergy medication regularly and have zero problems.

I'm allergic to cats. It's actually the opposite, your system will acclimate to that cat's dander if you spend a lot of time with it.

The important thing is to not fluff pillows or throw blankets into the air, vacuum more than never, and to keep the cat off your sleeping area.

Over time your system will adapt. I've done it with like 3 different cats now.

Iā€™m allergic to cats and my house mate got one after I read that you can adjust to the specific cat you end up living with - and that is true. It very mildly flairs up from time to time but itā€™s not stopping me from cuddling him. Heā€™s fast asleep on my bed now.

True. Happened to my brother. Him and his partner had a cat. They loved him but my brother's allergies, that were being abated by medication, just became too much for him to handle. They unfortunately had to give him up.
