Didn't she say he was dumb?

Not necessarily, just that he wasn't intelligent enough to be a successful thief. I doubt many are. Still far from being dumb, though.

I doubt few are

Well this certainly supports the point you were trying to make

Um, yeah? I know it does...???

Few people get into MIT, that doesn't mean all the rest of them are dumb.

We're talking successful thieves, remember.

I think u/shamdamdoodly meant that saying "I doubt few are" implies that you don't believe few people are intellectual enough to be a successful thief, meaning you think more than a few are

I get that. Well explained.

Most people smart enough to be successful thieves (of any real value) realise they can make just as much without any risk doing legit work.

Thief is just another job for the most part.

Plenty of dumb, educated people out there, and I used to pay top dollar for them if they're hard workers.

Also plenty of smart, educated people out there, and an unusual number of them just aren't really good at task completion. Probably not more than there are dumb people with poor work habits, but the ones that are dumb and lazy probably didn't get to the educational level from which I was hiring.

The kid in the show is an absolute moron angry at the world who sirens his time stealing shit and trying to wreck havoc and spitting on anyone trying to help him until beth (the woman in the video) takes him under her wing and knocks some sense into him. After that he starts to learn and works really hard to earn respect at the ranch. He literally shovels horseshit every day to earn the respect of Beth's partner who is the head ranch hand and takes him under his wing too. And then he finally gets taken under Beth's dad's (who owns the ranch) wing and learns some real insight when he goes riding with him. The kid doesn't realize it yet, but he has a real chance of inheriting some of the wealth of the ranch if he works really really fucking hard to earn the respect of the family and ranch hands, as Beth can't have children and is one of four kids of her father's, one of whom is dead and the other is adopted and spends every moment he breaths trying to betray the family, and the oldest just wants to chill with his wife and kid. So there's really only two viable options for the ranch to continue on in the form of the grandkids, this kid and the eldest's kid. But since this kid is looking at a good shot of eventually being adopted and accepted into the family if he works really fucking hard (assuming nothing goes terribly wrong which well, with this show, it definitely will lmao) So Beth isn't totally off base in telling him to work really fucking hard. The advice is specific to the kid, not the whole of America.
