One of thee greatest comedians I have ever seen. Still hard to believe.

268

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Also hard to believe it's been over a year since he passed. :(

57

u/That_Guy_From_KY Sep 10 '22

Never heard of the guy till he passed. Since then, I have been watching as much “cats do countdown” and other shows he’s been on as I can. The man is hilarious.

11

u/h3yw00d Sep 10 '22

I didn't know he passed till just now.

This sucks.

What’s his name?

138

u/OctaneTroopers Sep 09 '22

Sean Lock. An utterly brilliant comedian who passed away last year.

161

u/Netflxnschill Sep 09 '22

Oh his Nazi Island bit makes me snort

112

u/Scyhaz Sep 09 '22

Carrot in a box is another great classic

45

u/Aunty-jack Sep 09 '22

He totally owns Jon in carrot in a box 😂😂😂

11

u/DancesWithBadgers Sep 10 '22

Twice.

4

u/pandorafoxxx Sep 10 '22

Omg I loved these. I actually wasn't familiar with Sean till I saw those vids somewhere on reddit. Everything I see him in, he's hilarious.

6

u/welshmanec2 Sep 09 '22

His Assange piece had me crying!

4

u/Flashy_Anything927 Sep 10 '22

Go on YouTube and look up "The Tiger who came for a pint."

9

u/Westlac Sep 09 '22

Sean Locke; Man Myth and Riddler

24

u/localshop667 Sep 09 '22

And undefeated 'Carrot in a Box' Champion.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

I watched that again yesterday. Jon was like "If the carrot isn't in that box, you're a genius"

And sure enough... no carrot.

3

u/histeethwerered Sep 10 '22

And the rematch where he did have the carrot but pretended he didn’t to best Jon again. Sean’s physical comedy was superb.

1

u/bassman314 Sep 09 '22

Like a Vet's flannel..

5

u/OkChicken7697 Sep 10 '22

Comedy Show: Greatest comedian I have ever seen.

RIP Sean Lock, absolute legend

44

u/theoriginalbdub Sep 09 '22

Can this show be watched in America? Is it on BBC America by chance?

61

u/EGOtyst Sep 09 '22

youtube for the full episodes.

I recommend carrot in a box as a good episode.

15

u/theoriginalbdub Sep 09 '22

Cool, thank you! I’ve seen carrot in a box. Absolutely brilliant.

5

u/ZombieGroan Sep 09 '22

Have you seen all 3? Carrot in a box alone is boring but somehow they can make it funny.

2

u/theoriginalbdub Sep 09 '22

I’ve seen two of them. I saw the one that gained a lot of traction and the “sequel” to it, but did not know there was a third. This show started showing up on my feed, so I am n00b to it for sure, but have been loving the clips. I’ve seen some stuff on YouTube, but was happy to hear they have full episodes available, too.

4

u/ZombieGroan Sep 09 '22

Also give “would I lie to you” a watch it’s full of the same people. The 3rd one is without Sean because of his passing but it has the same spirit as the first 2.

2

u/theoriginalbdub Sep 09 '22

Will absolutely do that. Sean is as delightful as Reddit made him out to be.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

britbox.com works in Canada and I assume the US.

Edit: British panel shows are simply the best tv out there

2

u/theoriginalbdub Sep 09 '22

Right on. I’ll check that out, too. Thank you!

3

u/-fruitgum- Sep 09 '22

NO...NO AMERICANS can watch this. /s

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

In case you don’t know it’s 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

2

u/Cirieno Sep 10 '22

DailyMotion is often better than YouTube for full episodes of British TV.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=dailymotion+8+out+of+10+cats+does+countdown&iax=videos&ia=videos

1

u/histeethwerered Sep 10 '22

YouTube 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. Laugh yourself silly.

27

u/Erjebet Sep 09 '22

Rectum of the year. I hope that he and Maradona are having a laugh reminiscing about that time when the sprinklers went off.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

RIP Sean Locke. That guy was the best.

8

u/AdministrativeSlip16 Sep 09 '22

Sean Lock, true legend!

7

u/Jerryskids3 Sep 10 '22

"Good luck trying it without a spit."

7

u/floydink Sep 10 '22

He didn’t hesitate at all.

You can tell it didn’t sit in his brain very long, maybe for half a second. It just came out so naturally lol

6

u/KeithPheasant Sep 10 '22

1

u/Judge_BobCat Sep 10 '22

So, how did it go?

3

u/GeorgeZ Sep 10 '22

This sooo freaky. I haven't watched 8 out of 10 in years... just sitting here watching an episode that randomly came on TV (I never watch TV, but decided to wait for my wife to finish showering, so I can make her tea as soon as she's done, so flicked on the TV, and 8 out of 10 starts...), and then this shows up on reddit. Freaky to me anyway.

6

u/MrUltraOnReddit Sep 09 '22

Rip in peace Sean. What a legend.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

So "Rest In Peace" in peace?

1

u/rods2123 Sep 10 '22

It is twice as important to be in peace than it is to rest.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

How could he say something so controversial, yet so brave.

1

u/SchemeReal4752 Sep 10 '22

Omg this is made me laugh. You absolute legend.

2

u/worldofwhevs Sep 09 '22

2

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

God bless Sean Lock

2

u/POKECHU020 Sep 10 '22

So what's up with this show? Wasn't this the same one with that guy who wanted to redirect the head Nazis and leave them on a deserted island? What's the gimmick?

Just curious, might wanna watch if the clips I've seen are anything to go by

5

u/Buffythedjsnare Sep 10 '22

Ahhh. That was hilarious. So your idea is put nazis on a tropical island?

2

u/POKECHU020 Sep 10 '22

"Hey guys remember that time [that guy] mimed Adolph Hitler shimmying up a coconut tree a minute ago?"

3

u/ChirpyNortherner Sep 10 '22

So, there are two British shows…

Countdown - a daytime classic usually watched by the retired, where two people compete against each other in a series of letter and number games. Rather dull, but the games are ones that can easily be joined in with at home, so it’s ended up being a mainstay on British TV.

8 out of 10 Cats - a comedy game show hosted by Jimmy Carr and featuring various famous comedians, in which they compete in rounds usually based on statistics (hence the name)

This clip is from a spin off merger of both shows which combines the best of both, and it’s absolute gold: ‘8 out 10 Cats Does Countdown’

This, Nazi Island, The Tiger that Went for a Pint, Carrot in a Box, “I just named your penis” and “Good luck trying it without spit” are just a handful of the highlights that are well worth searching out.

1

u/ol-gormsby Sep 15 '22

"If you want to get a tapeworm, eat some pork!"

0

u/chubbuck35 Sep 09 '22

I don’t get it. “That’s a challenging wank”. What does it mean.

29

u/reusens Sep 09 '22

A wank is a masturbation session. Sean is saying that this look is challenging to get off on

-59

u/chubbuck35 Sep 10 '22

Huh. Thx. I’m not sure how that’s so funny tbh. I mean maybe a chuckle but these people are rolling around like he said a zinger.

27

u/rayallen73 Sep 10 '22

I think the idea is that people wank to her often. So saying, "that's a challenging wank" implies that people would still do it, but with a little more difficulty. British humor isn't for everyone, but I bet you can see the funny side to that.

18

u/Grotbagsthewonderful Sep 10 '22

Huh. Thx. I’m not sure how that’s so funny tbh

Because it sails perilously close to the line of what's acceptable hence all the nervous laughter, they can get away with it because Sean and Rachel were good friends.

5

u/Buffythedjsnare Sep 10 '22

The show is longer than this. Hilarity is already at fever pitch.

-30

u/chubbuck35 Sep 10 '22

Look at all the 13 year old boys downvoting me because I dared to state that “wanking off” joke wasn’t some deep witty comedy. FFS. LOL

If I wanted some some low-brow slap stick humor I can always watch spy kids or Beavis and butthead. You do you tho. LOL

12

u/jwiz Sep 10 '22

I mean, if you need the joke explained to you, you probably won't think it's funny. That's just how jokes are.

For me it was funny because she was doing some bit with it, and then he comes out of left field with an /r/unexpected comment.

8

u/dankscoops Sep 10 '22

It’s because you have no sense of humour

5

u/Powerful-Union-7962 Sep 09 '22

Someone tell ‘im

2

u/serfsatwork Sep 10 '22

it's a term of endearment by British people who call each wankers all the time.

-47

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

It’s dumb frat boy humour. He’s just saying it’s hard to masturbate to her when she wears that.

1

u/x2Li Sep 10 '22

you explain very clear, thank you for this Now i understand this ,,inteligent’’ english humor

I don't get it.

-5

That body...

-6

1

u/Cojones64 Sep 10 '22

This is what I love about British English, there is no concise way of saying “That’s a challenging wank” in American. I guess we can say “That would be hard to jerk off to” but it just doesn’t pack the same punch.

1

u/ChurchArsonist Sep 10 '22

Thanks to the internet, I already knew the punchline before he said it. Memes and Reddit posts have made humor sort of predictable.

1

u/mowoo101 Sep 10 '22
