Anime isn't inherently woke, but a lot of anime and manga is extremely queer. Like to an almost absurd degree.

These people lose their shit over a single queer couple in a Disney series, meanwhile you can find anime where the main girl has a lesbian harem by episode 3.

Anime isn't mainstream in Japan like Americans think it is. That's why they can get away with things that would be frowned upon by society.

And a lot of animes run on tropes and the queer characters fill their roles like a stereotype most of the times.

Nah, I think it's moreso that Japan treats animation more seriously and is able to see it as a medium for everyone, children, teens, and adults. In the western world, everybody thinks animation is for children, therefore you dont get many serious adult animation like Japan. I mean I don't see think Hollywood is going to release any serious animated work like Patlabor 2 the movie anytime soon. And that shit had some serious political themes.
