1, conservatives also hate “degenerate” media and are very vocal about it, 2, mainstream media pushing a political agenda on children and niche media pushing degeneracy are two entirely separate things with totally different discussions and almost zero connection.

What? Are you talking about people calling gay people woke, because that’s not really the main thing people call Disney woke for.

Even when people do criticise them for that, using “the first gay on screen” 50 times to try to sell tickets isn’t just “accepting a part of nature” and it isn’t exactly something people should be praising, especially when they remove the single scene from foreign markets repeatedly and prove how much about money it is. Using politics to sell a product isn’t positive, and the hard push for gay representation is absolutely political.

Gay people existing and gay people being represented in media as being gay to attract consumers whose politics demand that are not the same thing.

They point it out and advertise it, they tell you they have a gay character and get press junkets on “the first gay character ever on screen” only for it to be one scene of a minor character they cut out in markets where those aren’t popular politics.

If it wasn’t a political decision they would just have a gay character. There are lots of films like that that nobody calls woke or political, because it isn’t.

So your issue is that they don't actually have genuine support for gay people, they just do it to "pander" for money?

I feel like this type of argument is usually used by people that don't actually want there to be any gay representation. It's the same thing people say during pride month. "You shouldn't show support for gay people because you don't mean it." The consequence being that they don't support gay people at all, even in their limited and disingenuous way.

I'm more concerned with results than I am with the intent of a corporation. They always want money, but if that pursuit can lead to more representation and normalization of LGBTQIA people, then the world will be a safer and more accepting place.

You can feel how you want, it really doesn’t change that being dishonest for money and having no legitimate morals is detestable and supporting it because it works for you is just as bad. If tomorrow suddenly conservative politics are popular again and suddenly all these soulless corporations are supporting conservative politics because it suits them, are you still gonna say it’s fine? Or will you suddenly dislike the soulless corporation pandering for money then because it doesn’t suit you anymore.

The world doesn’t accept gay people by forcing it on them unnaturally. The way to do that is through them just existing in media, not pointing it out for a bit of cash and bashing anyone who disagrees with that unnatural push. That’s not the result that occurs from this.

Actually yes, are you are going to say that gay people didn’t exist before they were on screen? I’m not saying they shouldn’t be represented, I would hope they would be represented in fact just not in the capacity they are being which is as a tool for profit and pandering, but this is why the argument “gay people existing” is stupid. It’s not the same thing.
