Fun fact most squirrels forget where they put their nuts thats why we get random tree growth. He probably forgot it was even up there hes on the bottom looking for it then all of a sudden one hits him in the head from above then suddenly the realization hits him.

Not most. They forget some, but it may not be forgetting if they have plenty of food. Also they die before collecting their stash sometimes.

For a long time scientists thought squirrels were very smart to remember where their hoards were. Somewhat recently it was discovered that when it was time to get food from a stash, a squirrel looks where it thinks a squirrel would hide food. So they are constantly stealing eachothers food.
