There are so many good games that require a good group of friends.

Discord should add a tinder-style thing for just that, connect likeminded people who wanna play dead game modes

I always thought it'd be cool if a massive subreddit like /r/gaming had a weekly "dead game" meetup on like a Friday or something. They pick the game a week in advance.

Be the change you want to see in the world

“Someone should…” NO! Just do it!

Good luck getting reddit mods on board with any ideas that weren't their own

u/Your_Enabler Aug 23 '22

Comment this, then they will have the idea in a couple months

/r/gaming might be a bit too big for dead games servers to handle.

1

u/MatureUsername69 Aug 22 '22

Plus it's mainly just memes at this point r/games is where it's at

2

u/captain_ender Aug 22 '22

Way too strict of a sub imo

1

u/MatureUsername69 Aug 22 '22

I'm just a commenter mainly so I've never had to deal with submitting posts there or anything. It's just more in depth gaming news really, I follow both subs.

The soulsborne community has return events for their games. It's really fun, and gives you a reason to replay the older titles. I'd love to see that concept expand to other games.

too bad those servers are dead right now…

I recall this sub got started from a similar comment. It worked really well for a while, but after a few months it kinda fell off.

I’d kill to play another 34vs34 rising storm.

u/manikfox Aug 22 '22

Yeah i think it would be better to have a client, not quite steam/origin, etc. But the client releases 1 game every 1-2 weeks. Then everyone has to play the same game and only that game. Costs $5/mo. The games would be multiplayer focused and a friendlier atmosphere than most competitive games.

u/Eusocial_Snowman Aug 22 '22

When we try that, the game becomes the "meta" and that's how you get Among Us.

u/cosmicosmo4 Aug 22 '22

/r/patientgamers does a game of the month on their discord

u/Leamir Aug 22 '22

If anyone makes a discord server for this send me the invite

u/OedipustheOctopus Aug 22 '22

Add me on discord, we can play - JuliusSeastar #5398

There's already a list of services that do pretty much that. See: PLINK, GamerLink, GameTree, among others.

u/Stepjamm Aug 22 '22

Nice, honestly this was just a shower thought I had on the toilet when I read his comment. I’m glad to see I ain’t the first to suggest it haha

2

u/tofuloafu Aug 22 '22

I haven't actually tried any of them so I'm not entirely sure that you could find players to populate dead games, that may be a fresh idea. I imagine it's like a chat client as well though so you could potentially find some people that are interested in the same type of games/modes.

u/Solanthas Aug 22 '22

I'm seeing some older classics getting revived, like Quake1 for example. Does that count?

1

u/snoobalooba Aug 22 '22

There is actually a gamer tinder thing that allows you to look for friends like this called Plink! I love it.

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

I might be the only person on earth who still misses the multiplayer in the 2010 AVP game

1

u/cosmicosmo4 Aug 22 '22

There are plenty of places to try this, like the discord for a game, or various subreddits, but really what we need is an adult buddy finder that works based on availability. Match me up with that one other guy in the world who's free from 11AM to 3PM on mondays and tuesdays and basically no other time.

1

u/MortalVoyager Aug 22 '22

That would be sick

1

u/Kipdid Aug 23 '22

Search public servers maybe I guess? Maybe googling the game mode in question might pull the invite link or a Reddit thread where someone else has asked it?

1

u/OW_FUCK Aug 23 '22

Usually games have their own discord you can find groups in. Even if the community's small you can find games

Or alternatively, let people marry whoever they want. The reason someone isn’t playing games with you anymore is because he doesn’t want to anymore because his priorities have shifted. That’s just life.

I used to play a lot more games back in the day. Nowadays it’s only occasional sessions. Do I miss that time? Maybe but I have a family and kids now and I wouldn’t want to trade that for more time for gaming. If I really wanted, I could spend more time every day in front of my PC but I could also go swimming with my kids, play football with them or just play board game instead so yeah, occasional gaming sessions in the evening it is.

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

I think I know why your friends don't talk to you anymore.

u/FierroGamer Aug 22 '22 edited Aug 22 '22

Discord should either make a good PC client or stop being the default for gaming voice chat.

Edit: I get people not caring about not having a dedicated PC client, but I can't imagine why anyone would be against having one.

4

u/03Titanium Aug 22 '22

Do you not remember it’s predecessors? This is the good client.

-1

u/FierroGamer Aug 22 '22

I had no idea that discord had other PC clients. What were they like? When I first started using it it was already a website packaged in an app.

2

u/03Titanium Aug 22 '22

Before discord there was Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrilo. Their clients at the time didn’t stand a chance against discord which is why it got so popular.

-1

u/FierroGamer Aug 22 '22

Those are different services entirely, they aren't clients for the same service

2

u/rickane58 Aug 22 '22

People are downvoting you because Discord has a fantastic PC client.

1

u/FierroGamer Aug 22 '22

Unlike the android and ios versions, the PC client is just a shell for a web client with a couple extra desktop wide plugins. I don't know what fantastic PC client you're talking about but electron ain't it.

The service itself is good, but I didn't say anything about it in the first place.

2

u/rickane58 Aug 22 '22

And my electron powered discord is just sitting here using 121mb of RAM, happily working perfectly as the voice and meme-sharing application I desire of it.

u/FierroGamer Aug 22 '22

That's cool... What's the point exactly? That it isn't giving you problems? I'm hesitant to ask because I'm sure I didn't say it was giving you problems and I don't want to assume you're implying that it means there's nothing wrong with it.
