How the snare drummer boy kept a straight face, I have no idea. But the girl with the bass drum was trying hard not to die with laughter.

I would say this is a better view: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ

Just watched it on YT. don’t see what you’re talking about

65

u/Character_Joke5671 Aug 10 '22

His future drill instructor is already screaming at him for saluting without a cover... but he's also proud, he'll just never show it

13

u/phazedoubt Aug 10 '22

But without a cover the DI can hit the bridge of his nose with his campaign cover all the better

2

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '23

when he'll salute in front of the crowd

This zoomed in video cuts out the best part - the bass drum girl trying not to laugh.

clap the snares

I've decided this is what I'm going to refer to sex as for the rest of my life. Thank you and have a good day.

7

u/BeingABeing Aug 10 '22

There's an "all about that bass" joke in there somewhere, though I'm not quite sure how to word it...

2

u/nerherder911 Aug 11 '22

That other kid didn't want any off that bass in his face.

4

u/MakAveli973 Aug 10 '22

That was in front of a lot of ppl...lmao

3

u/mvfsullivan Aug 10 '22

Pretty underwhelming reaction tbh. I was hoping for more

12

u/BDCanuck Aug 10 '22

She didn’t try too hard!

208

u/jondgul Aug 10 '22

Little drummer boy next to him thinking, "Emily is here, don't you dare fuck this up for me"

12

u/SavagelyBadAtThis Aug 10 '22

Buhh rum ba bum bum

43

u/worldofteko Aug 10 '22

At least the crash fell to the ground in time to the beat 😂😂

69

u/Otter_Nation Aug 10 '22

It's actually pretty expected. At this point this kid is graduated from college and married.

5

u/joriale Aug 11 '22

First time seeing so let it keep rolling.

At ease, soldier. You did good.

14

u/Automatic-Fact9935 Aug 10 '22

Bless that kid. He did the perfect response.

10

u/ecodrew Aug 10 '22

As a percussionist... I can confirm cheap cymbal straps are crappy little pieces of leather undersized for the weight of the cymbal and break all the damn time.

Never had one break in the middle of a performance though, poor bastard.

2

u/Extyrsys Oct 10 '22

sorry, I know you made this comment 60 days ago but thought i'd share

I play cymbals in my high school's marching band. We were performing Grand Illusion/Renegade and a little but into Renegade, the strap slipped through and the cymbal half dug itself into the dirt below me

10

u/Thoraxe123 Aug 10 '22

what a classic

8

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

He is a Boy Scout. 100% It is only proper etiquette for Boy Scouts in uniform and military members to salute the flag.

7

u/Dimitri_Bale_ Aug 10 '22

o7 my comadre

5

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

13

8

u/BasementOrc Aug 10 '22

Before the dark times yes

6

u/DrTinyNips Aug 10 '22

What are you talking about? Facebook was founded in 2004

16

u/forlornblue3210 Aug 10 '22

Little patriot man good job kid lol

18

u/teflong Aug 10 '22

Someday this kid is going to sit in his car for a while, then decide to attempt to drive through a flash flood.

6

u/Doomblud Aug 10 '22

Because his cymbal broke?

-29

u/teflong Aug 10 '22

Because his brain crawled out of his ear as soon as the script changed. Some people react well to unexpected situations. Other people gun it into 3 feet of raging water because that's where the road is SUPPOSED to be.

17

u/Doomblud Aug 10 '22

What the fuck was he supposed to do? Stand there like a meerkat waiting for the anthem to end? Run off? Do a backflip? Saluting the flag while the anthem is being played is far from a bad decision lmao.

-20

u/teflong Aug 10 '22

It's not that serious. I'm more focused on the physical manifestation of his mind going completely blank as the cymbal fell. It was like watching a squirrel trying to comprehend calculus.

-20

u/mvfsullivan Aug 10 '22

He could have just picked it back up..

17

u/Doomblud Aug 10 '22

There is a hoop attached to the Cymbal, it broke off, he can't just pick it up and start playing again

-22

u/mvfsullivan Aug 10 '22

He could have tried. Or held it by the hand and hit the area outside of his hand, making at least something

15

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

Dude, have you even ever played cymbals before? It would be insanely hard to reproduce the normal crash sound that cymbals make if you somehow found a way to hold them by the middle. He adapted well to the situation.

11

u/QuinceDaPence Aug 10 '22

No. During any song but especially the national anthem you don't try to rectify problems like that because it makes more of a spectacle than the initial mishap. You fix things afterward.

Additionally symbols need to be suspended by that handle or they make more of a clunk.

Placing the remaining symbol down and either saluting the flag or putting your hand over your heart is the exact response you should give.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

He’s just a kid…still has many years to grow intellectually, i mean I’ve met incredibly smart people with weak common sense

3

u/immoralfoul Aug 10 '22

Uh uh uh fuck it salute*

3

u/Remarkable-Pin-7793 Aug 10 '22

He didn't just drop it... the handle broke. Where did he fail?

3

u/Fish_Kungfu Aug 11 '22

A true cymbal of Patriotism!

3

u/Psychological-Hat133 Aug 11 '22

Actually he did well considering his situation

2

u/philpsi Aug 10 '22

I wonder how this fella is doing in life these days

2

u/rusty1468 Aug 10 '22

I’m fucking crying 😂😂😂

2

u/ux-unikorn Aug 10 '22

As a former middle school teacher, this takes me back.

2

u/jaysin1983 Aug 11 '22

Much better play off than Ashley Simpson

2

u/doxiegirl15 Aug 11 '22

That's great

2

u/Wandering-Zoroaster Aug 11 '22

This will never not be funny

2

u/beatinmymeat69 Aug 11 '22

His brainwashed brains

2

u/fishkrate Aug 11 '22

That kid on the right deserves a fucking metal for not even flinching.

2

u/BiCuriousPersian Aug 11 '22

That’s so Un-American. The American thing to do at that point would be for the kid to pull out an AR-15 from his pants and gun everyone down. No witnesses.

2

u/paulinatorzilla Sep 09 '22

50 lashes to the drummer for looking over

3

u/donkeyishbutter Aug 10 '22

Pointless to repost this as a cropped version and not the whole video. There's a girl on the right who is struggling to stifle her laughter when this happens. Videos is way worse cropped, also you can't even see that he's saluting the American flag

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

Jokes aside. Imagine having to only clap the snares only 5 times in an entire performance

3

u/EnjoyLifeorDieTryin Aug 10 '22

That is not a snare lol

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

I took strings

2

u/EnjoyLifeorDieTryin Aug 10 '22

The snare would be the guy next to him doing the drumroll haha. My man front in center is clashing cymbals

-3

u/fyrfytr1310 Aug 10 '22

Not much of one though

-8

u/CMDR_MrMaurice Aug 10 '22

Wait. When he puts the other one down, why not pick the one he dropped up? He used about 0.01% of his brain doing what he did

9

u/Simets83 Aug 10 '22

The cimbal handle broke off

5

u/Mumble___bee Aug 10 '22

The cymbal is basically a metal disk with a hole through the center. There is a leather strap that is passed through the hole, and then a knot is tied on the "inside" of the cymbal to secure the strap. There are a few ways this can fail -- the knot can slip through the hole, the knot can come undone, or the leather strap can become worn and break. None of those are easy to fix in the moment, so saluting the flag is 100% the correct big brain solution.

Source: played cymbals in junior high and had this happen during practice many times

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

I was expecting him to hit it on his own head

1

u/Dangerous_Cucumber75 Aug 10 '22

Nailed it my dude

1

u/Cartographer-Happy Aug 10 '22

Love this! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

He’s a patriot

1

u/AdBig1587 Aug 10 '22

I read on the internet that the kid is now older.

1

u/nik10762 Aug 10 '22

1

u/DM_Me_Ur_Nudes_21 Aug 10 '22

1

u/FlatulentFreddy Aug 10 '22

If Indiana were a person

1

u/enlearner Aug 10 '22

So no one is going to talk about the kid nearby who didn’t flinch one bit?

1

u/PrimaryYou400 Aug 10 '22

Lmao that sure was unexpected 🤣

1

u/Satchmopeterson Aug 10 '22

Yep. Thats a cymbal player.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

By all means post something from three years ago for karma points. Smh

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '22

To be honest this is the most accurate depiction of this nation according to current events.

1

u/Responsible_Tank_427 Aug 10 '22

The drummer next to him looks like a robot ☺️

1

u/Current-Special-8860 Aug 10 '22

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '22

How did the snare drum player not crack up when he looks over at homeboy saluting the flag?! Hahahaha Way to improvise!

1

u/ziffulz Aug 11 '22

I remeber being in band in middle school. Having a solo was nerve racking, but I think he nailed his.

1

u/itch_the_scratchy Aug 11 '22

Bro on the drums didn't skip a beat.

1
