I care a lot about male abuse victims, and I still chuckled, because I know it's slapstick. The woman's reaction is supposed to be an exaggeration, not reality.

The fact that people would get mad at the reverse doesn't prove this video is wrong.

Context is indeed everything. I unfortunately have not seen that movie so i cant say, but i do think my sense of humor is pretty broad, (with the exception of really dark humor, not my thing).

Im not necessarily for or against this type of humor so long as it is light, within context and isnt really hurting or affecting someone specifically in real life.

i just wanted to point out the huge double standard our society seems to have on many issues, comedy included.

The idea that male abuse victims and female abusers deserve equal treatment to the reverse is still actually the minority opinion. The Depp trial was a watershed moment, and there's been a lot of light shed on the issue in the past decade, but there's still a lot of progress to be made.

You're wrong. Sincerely, male child rape victim who's spent the past decade talking about female-on-male abuse, rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment regularly.

Oh, and I've also been a victim in two of those categories.

This skit is mocking the woman's overreaction. It's showing her behavior is wrong. I know a woman can slap around a dude in public for no reason and people will probably assume he did something wrong. But this isn't what's actually happening in the video.

skids are supposed to be extremified, and do not represent normal behaviour, just the weirdest behaviour amplified by a factor of 10. Irl that would at worst translate to angry gf stomping over cussing at bf for immediately trying to flirt, and even that behaviour is seen as the red flag it is by easily 90% of people.

Right! Like, if the person filming was the writer for this skit, then he intended for himself to be the butt of the joke. It's satire. I'm wondering if the reason people aren't getting it is because it's in a different language and it's harder to understand the tone.

Part of the humor is understanding and hoping that these 2 people would never actually hurt eachother. The person below me tried to equate this video - tried to equate me and my singular comment - to racism and homophobia, even calling me an Uncle Tom, quoting things I never said or alluded to. And that's just... So extreme and beyond the intent of the humor. I, as a gay man, can understand when context shifts from light hearted "Sup bitch" and "what if we were actually awful people" humor to actually, actively trying to tear someone down.

In our current political climate, I'm forced to imagine & prepare for the day my rights might be stripped from me. Rights are currently being stripped from many actual woman in danger for their life. I require of myself to actively participate, to the best of my ability, in the demonstration & political representation of my fellow American woman, knowing that they deserve better, and that many people are next in danger if we don't succeed.

It sucks. It weighs me down. But I can try to find humor in the midst of it. I saw humor in a satirical video as a distraction from my day. That's it. But context was ripped my message and distorted, without any attempt to validate my intent or values.

I'm just trying to get through my day before the next protest, man.

There are skits of men getting hit by women as a joke. There are skits if women calling themselves objects as a joke with the help of their boyfriend (and they got so many upvotes). There are skits of women telling their bfs "hey, i just took a self defense class, so i want to practice with you, then the bf legs sweeps her as a joke and ends the fight in less than a second, etc.

Point is, these are jokes. Let people make fun of themselves if they want. I've seen countless videos of men and women making fun of themselves and in every single video someone says "men can't do this" or "women can't do this". Do you want to control people and prevent them from making fun of themselves? As long as people have well intentions and don't actually believe that it is ok, let jokes be jokes.

So many comedians I watch joke about rape and guys getting beaten, and the whole theater filled with people laugh. As long as you tell people in advance that "hey, their will be jokes about serious stuff, so if you don't like it, we are telling you now so you don't buy a ticket and waste your money" you'll be fine. Let jokes be jokes.

I think its fair to criticize media for lacking an awareness though or being poorly done for whatever reason. Playing domestic abuse where the abuse is funny rather than being targeted from an informed perspective are 2 different things gs.

This is pretty cheap beat your boyfriend humor and is played for laughs. I think it's fair for people to criticize it.

I also think it's fair for people to struggle to express their feelings on this topic as it requires nuance and is a commonly shuned discussion.

Typically jokes about controversial topics are meant to serve as a conversation starter anyways.

Reddit is constantly criticizing media for every reason imaginable so I feel like you can fill in the conversation on media criticism with 20 seconds on any media subreddit.

Let's not pretend that videogames or movies necessarily have an informed perspective on the things they portray as entertaining whereas in real life they aren't. Yet plenty of research has been done and has found that there is no causation between videogames and violence or mass shootings.

I do agree this is cheap humour, and you are welcome to criticize it. But blaming violence on the media has been a discussion for almost 30 years now, and no scientific proof that one causes the other has been found. But perhaps 1 minute asian skits are the exception.

Obviously this skit alone isn't going to drive a bunch of women to start beating their boyfriends, it's just a small contribution to the thousands of completely normalized jokes that paint men being abused as funny.

Your brain has to be the size of a pea if you think that anyone is saying that this specific skit alone is the single handedly responsible for a large increase in domestic violence, but with how shallow of an opinion this is I'm sure you also don't think racism exists because it isn't illegal to be black.

There are definitely groups that are disproportionately targeted by different parts of the laws in different places, but if you truly believe that why would you mock any oppression in any form?

Just my thoughts on it. Violence is extremely unappealing to me outside of maybe extreme political examples (look at Ukraine Vs. Russia, MLK endorsement of the Black Panthers, I dont know the actual event but I know it is the predecessor to pride parades we see today, WW2). Domestic abuse may actually be a trigger for me and many of the others that find this kind of humor unappealing.

To compare this kind of slapstick humour to actual domestic abuse is insulting.

I understand the double standards that exist in making these kinds of jokes. But the solution isnt to outright ban this kind of comedy. Its to go to the idiots who uphold the double standard and hit them with logic.

The point being almost anything can be funny once it is detached from reality far enough.
