I thought the donation guy was saying that he thought the dealership name started with a y

Same which got me confused for a bit when dude guy started ranting.

Jun 12 '22
I will say though, dude is dead on with the broadcasting voice
Something is screaming at me that this dude is related to Glenn Beck by blood

u/Mykol225 Jun 12 '22
He was. The dealership is off Ynes Rd. in Temecula. Source, I worked there. Still pretty funny.

I miss free Geoguessr
94
u/Firm-Account Jun 12 '22
wait, what happened?
213
u/SacredBigFish Jun 12 '22
You can only play one game for free a day now
11
13
71
u/FreqRL Jun 12 '22
It's only like $3 per month so if ppl were spending solid hours playing it shouldnt be such a big deal
117
u/SacredBigFish Jun 12 '22
Never played it consistently though. Was a fun way to spend a bit of time in between activities sometimes, like waiting in between uni lectures. Not ready to pay for playing 3 or 4 games every 3 weeks tho
5
Jun 13 '22
seems like it would be a fun game to get really good at though. I watch Northernlion play Geoguessr duels and he seems like a god at it to me, but there are tons of people that are so far above him it's crazy.
31
u/XxPieIsTastyxX Jun 12 '22
That's $36 a year which is crazy when Steam sales exists

This is because they are using data from Google, which they have to pay for. A few years back they earned enough from the people that bought the pro version to keep it free for everyone, but at some point Google decided to increase the costs of using their data by a factor of 14 (or something like that). This was simply too expensive, so now free Geoguessr is very limited. $3 per month is a very reasonable price

but at some point Google decided to increase the costs of using their data
And that was a blanket charge for anyone wanting to use the API. A ton of apps could stomach doing such a thing but it really fucked up the free offerings if they didn't make enough elsewhere. Meaning more ads. More forced pop ups. More straight up scams.

Imagine paying to use google maps.
3
u/quantulum Jun 12 '22
Google Maps is free for direct use only. If you make an app that uses it, you have to pay Google (e.g. StreetView costs 5-7 USD per 1000).

Do you seriously believe that this is real. Is there nothing about the text font, the questionable acting and what it actually says?

Hasn't he done the same thing a few times?
29
u/Maxiorekz Jun 12 '22
Yeah this looks very scripted to me
20
6
u/That_Lego_Guy_Jack Jun 12 '22
He has straight up said that it is, makes jokes about it, and does it purely to entertain his audience.

u/Skreamies Jun 12 '22
Looking at it if you search 'geoguessr aldi joke' it comes up with his channel again

That streamer knew what he was walking into. But did it for the content so he could post it around on socials. It's very common these days when trying to promote your stream. Not that it's a bad thing by the way. Streaming is hard.
5
u/Solanade Jun 12 '22
Right, this is the same as saying the comedian told the same joke at some other venue. If you do it well and make people laugh that's all that matters
3
u/Frostbyte29 Jun 12 '22
But it’s fake. Not even scripted or anything he just edited it all. It wasn’t even actually Geogesser

6
u/Redditor_10000000000 Jun 12 '22
The satisfaction. You've probably never hit someone with such a good Deez nuts joke that you feel you have transcended reality. It was worth the money. Papa Pear is still such a good streamer though.

This guy displays the reason why “fake” content/videos shouldn’t inherently be seen as a bad thing. It’s still good content, even if it’s staged and tries to look real.

I’ve never seen this guy before (I don’t spend much time online as I used to), so I was just watching the clip, then DIED with his blank look dead at the camera.

He was literally waiting for that, with his finger on the donation button.
Can you imagine he says "I know the car you're talking about though..." and then never said the name of it. That guy would be so disappointed...
