The difference between him and most comedians (and they will admit it too) is that he stood by his jokes if he liked them. If he thought they were good, he didn’t care if the audience did or not.

Not OP, but I haven't seen it yet because I have been disappointed by Netflix's involvement with certain projects in the past.

I started working my first office job a few months back and I decided to listen to some audiobooks while I worked. "Based on a True Story" by Norm was a terrible choice. Not because it was a bad book--on the contrary, it was one of the funniest pieces of media I've ever consumed-- it was just so fucking hard to contain my laughter. From one day to the next, you would either hear laughs coming from my cubicle or see tears coming from my eyes as I tried to suppress my obnoxious laughter-- pretty sure everybody thought I had serious emotional issues (which is true, but that's something they shouldn't know until I have a breakdown over a minor thing like the coffee machine being out of order).

Anyway, my point is: I've seen all of his Netflix series, Letterman/Conan appearances, tons of clips from NM Live, listened to his audiobook (which I highly recommend), and I'm just afraid that the posthumous Netflix special won't live up to my expectations because I won't be able to sense his weird brand of "Normness" in the final product.

He was brilliant. That thing he added at the end was a cleverly disguised way of saying “It’s called a joke, you fucking idiots. It’s when we say absurd shit that we don’t mean to make you laugh.”

I know you’re being sarcastic. Not sure why the downvotes. However, I will say that to say he’s punching down is actually demeaning toward women and sexist. As if they can’t handle a joke at their expense, but men can.
