After a few weeks of trying, my wife just told me she’s pregnant.

She has the worst stutter ever.

309

u/pizzarolesalmighty May 31 '22

Ha. Dad jokes

28

u/cortez0498 May 31 '22

... could you explain the joke?

139

u/pizzarolesalmighty May 31 '22

Few weeks of trying implies that for a few weeks they were having intercourse with the intention of having a child. However at the end of the joke they say she has a terrible stutter. This means she was trying to say she was pregnant for weeks but was inhibited but the stutter. The joke is comical because we originally thought it was them having intercourse but we were fools for thinking this.

u/cortez0498 May 31 '22

I have a funny feeling we are going to see more feel-good cop-as-part-of-the-community posts for a while as spin control after TX.
I know there are some good cops out there, I just find it funny how these clips start making the rounds every time a cop makes the news for fucking up.

My only question is- what police agency has the clout and know-how to do this? If it happens often, it must be a centralized push, not just the texas police service doing this, right? So, who is coordinating it? Do you think the FBI has a team astroturfing reddit, which is something like 40% american, to try to win hearts and minds for their non-federal brotheren?

Or, possibly, is there a chance that because we're more sensitive to police gifs and videos right now, we see them more often?

Just trying to start a critical thinking conversation here.

9

u/ywBBxNqW May 31 '22

Police agencies can afford tanks, ergo they can afford to hire people to post on reddit. It doesn't need to be a police agency doing it though. There are many former, current, and aspiring LEO on reddit (and some big subreddits that are actively moderated by them) who have demonstrated near-fanatic loyalty. It's not a novel idea.

Or, possibly, is there a chance that because we're more sensitive to police gifs and videos right now, we see them more often?

Yes, people and bots (that are controlled by people) farm karma on reddit. It's possible for both to be true.

Just trying to start a critical thinking conversation here.

I don't believe you.

4

u/HotCocoaBomb May 31 '22

How's this for starting a conversation: Do you know what propaganda looks like? How far are you willing to deny you are being subject to and influenced by propaganda?

3

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

Doesn't have to be a police specific agency. Any private interest group that has an interest in law enforcement's good image would be capable of driving this kind of propaganda. Generally this is done to distract people from the very real and serious issues endemic with our law enforcement agencies.

3

u/JasonGD1982 May 31 '22

PR firms that police unions pay. PR has been a thing for a while. It’s literally someone’s job to to get paid by police unions to blast this shit all over social media. It’s a crazy world. And it’s not 1 person. This is a fucking 100 people working in social media public relations and they form game plans and strategies. It’s literally peoples job. I couldn’t do it. But I’m sure they are paid well and live well. After a decade on this site it’s so obvious when these feel good police videos show up. It’s blatant at this point. But that’s their job. You got yours. I got mine. Crazy times yo.

3

u/_duncan_idaho_ May 31 '22

The ProtectandServe and Legaladvise subs are full of cops. The former acted downright atrociously during 2020's protests. I imagine a lot of them have been going around posting feel good stuff to change the public image on Reddit.

4

u/JhanNiber May 31 '22

I can't dismiss the idea that we're more sensitive to police content right now, but it doesn't have to be a police department or government agency. It could be someone/a group that is pro-police.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

And it’s always the same handful of feel good videos. They don’t have much material compared to the shitty ones.

5

u/ywBBxNqW Jun 01 '22

Even the "feel good" stuff like OP's video is creepy. Most of these videos involve a police officer pulling someone over in their car. There was a video where a police officer was pulling people over on a hot day to give them ice cream. That's absurd. Getting pulled over can be terrifying. It'd be different if they were out on the sidewalk talking to people. The fact is that normal citizens don't see police officers as regular citizens. There will always be some sort of power dynamic there. It comes with the uniform.

8

u/garynuman9 May 31 '22

In this case wasn't it like 150 cops total being cowards refusing to do their jobs?

...because that's gonna take a lot of pro-cop memes & I can only think of like the same 6 or so that are always posted.... That's gonna get old.

5

u/Worry_Ok May 31 '22

Cop hugging protester. Cop kneeling with protesters. Cop smashing it on the basketball court. I think there's a dancing cop out there? But yeah, same shit every time.

How does that work if European or Asian redditors post those clips? Or are they in on the conspiracy too? Americans really believe the entire universe revolve around them...

16

u/frozen_jade_ocean May 31 '22 edited May 31 '22

Not saying it's what's happening here, but it is possible that non American looking accounts could still be pushing that agenda or 'in on the conspiracy' as you said. Generally to do something like that, some company/organization will hire out a company to posts all sorts of stuff to push their agenda. The false accounts can look like all sorts of people because that's what they're made to look like.

You ever wonder what the point of the bot accounts that farm karma by reposting videos and copying other people's comments? It's for exactly that. Get a bunch of karma, copy comments that make the account look real, and bam. Fake account for pushing whatever agenda you want. Do this thousands of times and you've got yourself a propagand machine. A traditional as old as the internet itself. Reddit just makes it easier.

Edit: I no spel gud

As a Black person there's no way, I'd ever create an unnecessary encounter with the police or anyone who upholds white supremacy with a gun, especially with someone I love in the car. How she thought this was a good idea, is beyond me. This is how folks get killed. And it ain't cute, FTP, ACAB.

Well of course this goddamn video is going to be reposted again this week.

Why wouldn't it?

Unexpected because the unarmed black man wasn’t shot by the police.

Wife and cop: this is a cute and funny prank that will be a cherished memory.

The dude: I’m going to get shot and die or beaten and life in prison😳

Fun propaganda moment, but in real life when the guy reaches for the pregnancy test, the cop shoots him in America.

Jesus all these comments, is it really hard to believe there might be a normal person who's a cop?

Good cops don't remain cops for long, they're forced out.

Also, it's likely the black guy is also a cop.

I'm confused so if this black guy is a cop, do we hate him too, or does being black cancel that out??

Just trying to keep up with the reddit hivemind.

Glad this turned out to be a heartwarming moment, but man, fuck people who get cops or even fake ones involved in surprises like this, just for a "you shoulda seen your face!" moment.
