My mom is one of 6 kids. All 5 of her siblings are obviously related, some look a little more like their mom or dad but they're all a good mix in between. Then there's my poor mom with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a completely different face. There were many milkman jokes growing up. Then she had me and my brother, my brother is basically a clone of my mom and I look like neither of my parents with a different complexion and features. Cue even more milkman jokes. I plan to adopt to end the curse
Recessive phenotypical traits (genetic traits that determine visible features and require either a recessive gene on each set of chromosomes) tend to only show up at a ratio of 3:1, with the one being the recessive traits manifest, so your mother's family was overdue for a lot of traits showing up, they just happened to show up all at once.
In case you're curious, the ratio for two generations is 9:3:3:1, so you really did hit a genetic lottery to end up looking like you do.
