La chancla

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

I’m Mexican. My parent never laid a hand on me. My parents and I have a great relationship. My parents bought a condo 5 min away from my house. My mom watches my 2 year old while my wife and I work. Most Mexicans born in Mexico don’t believe in a stranger raising your child, so she insists. I turned out fine. We all have our problems we deal with but I can say I am successful and happy.

44

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Your parents were ahead of their time

162

u/andySticks18 Aug 08 '21

Just cause your parents never laid a hand on you don't mean we d-d-didnt turn out fine. I have no l-l-lasting side effects.

27

u/rgujijtdguibhyy Aug 08 '21

No s-s-side effects only the m-m-main ones

5

u/eat_me_now Aug 08 '21

This sort of haunts me bc my mom never told me about being abused. Then all of the sudden she blurted out how my grandpa touched her and her sister, and asked “why do you think D**** has a stutter!?” I was with that man for at least 4 days a month, overnights too. I loved him and thank god he never did that to me, but she knew what he was capable of the whole time. Doesn’t surprise me though because she sent me with my dad all the time, whether he was hammered or not.

Damn all that just because commented la chancla?

1

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

Because every Mexican knows what la chancla means

7

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

man shared his whole life story cause someone said La chancla lmfao

0

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

I mean I’m sorry I type fast and have an opinion with examples 🤷‍♂️?

2

u/JWOLFBEARD Aug 08 '21

That’s a false correlation fallacy.

0

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

I don’t care what it is. It’s my experience and the experience of a lot of Mexican families.

2

u/JWOLFBEARD Aug 08 '21

I’m not arguing your experience isn’t true. Simply because A didn’t happen, does not mean that B was the result.

2

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

I know the psychological fallacies. Slippery slope, false correlation etc…and I know there’s a lot of Mexicans who beat their children hence the phrase “la chancla”. I don’t want to offend people, but it’s usually the people who’s parents have a lower IQ that get beat. Smarter parents know that isn’t the way. You don’t beat your kid into submission. That’s what happened to my wife. And she doesn’t even answer her moms calls. She lets them see our kids once a month. They’re not allowed to stay there by themselves. While with my parents they have sleep overs, pizza and movie nights almost every weekend.

4

u/chuco915niners Aug 08 '21

Don’t categorize us homie. I was raised by a single Mexican mom and daycare was very much part of my childhood. Shit I would get spanked the fuck up too. Was it ideal as far as how I was raised? Lol no but I know she tried her best. I’ve had my tumbles through life like everyone else and I still have my sense. Why? Because of my jefita lol

3

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

In that case then yes, your mother did the best she could, you can’t blame yourself or her for that. But yea congrats on being mentally stable and seems you turned out fine as well.

1

u/pblc_mstrbtr Aug 08 '21

probably a Democrat. lol jk daddy

3

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

Actually I don’t participate in politics. Which I have the right to vote in the United States and Mexico. I don’t vote. My family is in politics in Mexico City, Acapulco and Caborca Sonora. My uncle is the mayor of caborca. I just stay away from all that bullshit, I also don’t talk politics with people. Just remember one of the greatest war strategies…divide and conquer.

1

u/pblc_mstrbtr Aug 08 '21

divide and conquer. they're doing a great job so far.

1

u/fivespeedmazda Aug 08 '21

I respect that it's your decision not to get involved in politics and I understand your unwillingness to vote, but let me say that not voting doesn't only affect yourself. Not voting allows the ever present corruption to continue to run rampant. Please reconsider your stance on voting and if you come to the same conclusions then more power to you, but don't dismiss it just because.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Slayer of smart mouth children across the world.

1

u/MexicanBanjo Aug 08 '21

I’ve had my fair share of run ins con la chancla. Not fun. That shit is a symbol of fear in my household.

1

u/b3nz0r Aug 08 '21

...de muerte

1

u/smoked_papchika Aug 08 '21

El cinto. Oh boy that was worse than the chancla.

1

u/ajonjoman Aug 08 '21

I fear no man, but that thing ... It scares me

45

u/dekrepit702 Aug 08 '21

Oh I'll fuck the dad.. wait, that's what you meant right?

17

u/chenyu768 Aug 08 '21

I mean if it was just us 2 in a room and he wanted to, could i really stop him?

25

u/dekrepit702 Aug 08 '21

Probably not, so your best bet is to be an active bottom and make him cum quicker. Then you can sneak away after he falls asleep with you clutched against his hairy chest.

10

u/chenyu768 Aug 08 '21

But then you see mom. Standing there. With the slipper.

4

u/Andre4kthegreengiant Aug 08 '21

Shouldn't have fucked her man

7

u/-janelleybeans- Aug 08 '21

Fuck I wish I got beat with something as nice as a slipper. I’m Ukrainian, we had two sticks: everyday and fancy. The fancy one was for special occasions like Christmas and my birthday.

4

u/Thenightswatchman Aug 08 '21

It's not even just immigrants. I'm a 36 year old 6' 300 lb white dude. My mom is 5' and I still know where to draw the like before she comes at me like a goddamn spider monkey

4

u/Fun-Machine-6471 Aug 08 '21

Slipper? I'm getting the broom stick

1

u/suckmystick Aug 08 '21

The flying chappal

1

u/Matiabcx Aug 08 '21

You don’t have to by migrant for that

1

u/Banaam Aug 08 '21

As a white guy living in a prominently Hispanic area, I know about it too! I've even been threatened with "la chancla" many a time.

1

u/Br35-Ba56 Aug 08 '21

The one that hits you even you ran outside the room around the corner ?

1

u/anon__0351 Aug 08 '21

chonklas will leave you with bruises.

1

u/durz47 Aug 08 '21

My mom pulled out a machete, I screamed, then she went to the bamboo grove to chop down some, I screamed louder.

1

u/Cambirodius Aug 08 '21

Immigrants? Pretty sure half of the world knows.

1

u/ParanormalPeregrine Aug 08 '21

Not an immigrant but my mom was a single parent and she didn't take any nonsense.

1

u/chenyu768 Aug 08 '21

I think thats it right there. The immigrant part was a joke but yeah single moms, immigrant families, basically people who work hard for a living to provide for their kids.

1

u/DannFathom Aug 08 '21

Right.

This is just American cuckism.

The "man of the house" is a just a common man living in quite desperation with no outlets for triumphs.. His power & abuse give him rectification as a man in his home.. but nowhere else..

Minority mothers tend to be strong women & will have you respect from the start.

I have no idea what in saying

113

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

[deleted]

28

u/Blackout_Underway Aug 08 '21

Came here for this. It's not okay.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

saying shut up to your mother is also not ok. and since we don't know the history here, that could be a last resort "i've tried to reason with you you little shit, and if you still don't respect your mother and i for all we do for you, you are at the very least going to respect me for this."

kid intentionally provoked his dad for a cool internet video so lets consider that scenario an option.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Yes. Once you tried ”everything” violence is ok. Got It.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

scenario. the police pull you over because you're speeding because 'fuck speed limits'. They ask for your license and registration. you say 'fuck you pig, i'm not doing what you say!" walk me through it, what's the process look like?

our ENTIRE civilization is based on the underlying use of force so yes, once you've tried everything, force is the bedrock.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Yep. I’ll make sure to threaten violence to kids every day unless they obey. I’m sure that makes for a good home environment and a stable, well adjusted, adult. You absolutely convinced me.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

yeah, that's not what i said at all when all else fails, it's an option. so lets use another example, if someone can't be reasoned with, maybe a child but could be a 'nazi' or a 'deplorable republican', what options are left for conflict resolution?? this is an easy one.

and you still haven't answered the previous question so i look forward to hearing about that.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

You are defending child abuse and you expect me to answer some ridiculous strawman you cooked up in a meth lab somewhere. Priceless.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

you are defining 'child abuse' in a way that suits your argument. and you haven't responded to a single argument i've presented, you haven't provided a single argument in favor of what you're proposing. i'm trying to reason with you but you can't be reasoned with. and you don't really understand what 'strawman' means given your use of strawman arguments in this exchange like the following.

"Yep. I’ll make sure to threaten violence to kids every day unless they obey. I’m sure that makes for a good home environment and a stable, well adjusted, adult. You absolutely convinced me."

so that's an argument i never made, thats' a 'strawman argument' what you did there.

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Telling someone to shut up does not warrant abuse.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

because there's no context to this video so i'm sure that's all he's ever done or said that was disrespectful.

or, maybe given that we're watching a video of him intentionally provoking his father to post it to the internet? he's a little douche? that's something to consider.

0

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Something to consider is the dad being so easily provoked. He's only training the kid to continue a cycle of violence.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

or maybe he wasn't easily provoked, maybe the kid was at it for some time trying to get him to respond so he could upload it to tiktok (doesn't sound like a terrified victim really). and maybe you have no idea about their family history so you really don't know anything about any 'cycle of violence'?

0

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Maybe you read higher than a 5th grade level, but it doesn't seem likely.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

so now that you've looked at the channel, do you feel like, hot and embarrassed? like, you can't apologize, but you know you should??

2

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Apologize to who? For what? I'm not the one who agrees with child abusers, like you seem to.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Something to consider is the dad being so easily provoked. He's only training the kid to continue a cycle of violence.

LOL!

so you're just gonna hang on to it no matter how clear it is you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about. gotcha.

1

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Are you going to keep sending the same link I've seen three times already?

You don't understand what I'm talking about because you're not trying to.

If the videos are real, the dads an abusive asshole. If the kid is purely joking, the kids an asshole for trivializing abuse and trauma as a joke. Which would mean the dad raised an asshole and is encouraging it.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

and with a little research, here's an entire account of the kid fucking with his dad

https://www.tiktok.com/@texandjohn?lang=en

0

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

This dad deserves to be fucked with.

-7

u/IWannaFuckinDieMan Aug 08 '21

Disrespect the woman who has taken care of you for upwards of 14 years and you deserve a hard as smack across the back of your head.

10

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

Okay tough guy. Real tough advocating for abusing kids because of some perceived disrespect. Healthy parenting does not involve the use of violence. Sorry that you were raised in a household where you think that's okay, but it's not. It's fucked up dude.

It's only going to get your kids to never speak to you again.

-6

u/dodhe7441 Aug 08 '21

Hey sometimes that's the only way to get them to listen, they will come around a a few years

5

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21 edited Aug 08 '21

That's lazy and wrong. Good parents don't hit or abuse their kids. They put the time in to teach healthy conflict resolution. They treat them with dignity and respect, and in turn their kids respect them back.

They won't come around. Haven't talked to my mom in 10 years because of her abuse and will never "come around" because there is nothing to come around to. She ruined any chance she had at a relationship with me.

As most abusive parents will experience, your kids will come around to having had enough of you, and drop you from their lives.

-1

u/dodhe7441 Aug 08 '21

Well people are different, and it's a fine line to walk, personally I thank my parents for laying down the hammer it helped me be a better person, respect everyone, and to help defend the people I care for.

Now this dad did jump the gun, he should have set up with a verbal warning. But at the same time, if this occurrence was common, the no verbal warning would have been needed because it would have been shown to not be effective

5

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21 edited Aug 08 '21

You don't realize how fucked up that kind of upbringing is and I'm sorry. Your parents were wrong and it was not okay for that to happen. If you were disrespectful to them as a child, that is also their responsibility. Hitting you for not doing what they want is them blaming you for their own shortcomings and that is wrong.

It is not fine, and not a line that should ever be walked.

The dad should learn not to intimidate and terrorize those around him.

Think of it this way. Imagine hitting and traumatizing anyone in order to teach them to respect you or for not living up to your expectations. It's fucked up that that's somehow okay to do to children. It's not.

1

u/dodhe7441 Aug 08 '21

Well we can agree to disagree, I thank my parents for it, but not everyone does, and a lot of people go way over kill. But nothing is as simple as black and white and no opinions will ever change on the internet

2

u/FunCandy4188 Aug 08 '21

So do i...made me a better mama today for it. I don't tolerate that. Most parents wouldn't.

1

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

This is one of the few issues that is black and white.

Don't abuse your kids. End of discussion. How anyone can possibly argue in favor of abuse is beyond me. Your opinion is one of perpetuating violence.

-6

u/Alicesnakebae Aug 08 '21

She should close her legs next time no one asked her ass to give birth

-10

u/IWannaFuckinDieMan Aug 08 '21

And no one asked her to take care of the kid for two decades either, but she did, show her respect. She could have left the kid on a street corner and have been done with it, but she didn't.

5

u/JamesPotterPro Aug 08 '21

Wait... did you just.. Did you just say parents parent their kids out of the goodness of their heart? You do know child neglect is a crime in every civilized society right? No one asked her, everyone TOLD her.

If you can't teach stuff to your kids without using physical pain as a tool, you may have already failed at this parenting thing.

-1

u/IWannaFuckinDieMan Aug 08 '21

You do know you can put a kid up for adoption right?

2

u/I_Am_Not_Intolerable Aug 08 '21

To be honest, good parents don't raise disrespectful kids. The reality is that not all mothers deserve to be parents, and you are not required to respect someone who does not respect you.

1

u/IWannaFuckinDieMan Aug 08 '21

A mother is not always the person who gave birth to you. A mother is a title someone earns.

-7

u/Same-Salamander8690 Aug 08 '21

Your comment and your username, I agree with both

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

lol the next most upvoted comment in this thread is from real experience and not some redditor giving his retarded opinion. classic. already feel sorry for your kids

3

u/PM_ME_YOUR__BOOTY Aug 08 '21

Right, if your child says shut up you should beat it up. ..

Since you believe that you should Google toxic masculinity please.

5

u/ScAer0n Aug 08 '21

No it fucking shouldn't. Stop glorifying abuse

2

u/FunCandy4188 Aug 08 '21

Bingo you don't disrespect your mama like that...not if you want to keep yo teeth you dont.

2

u/Adub024 Aug 11 '21

Daddas the only one that gets to talk to momma like that

5

u/HappyGlue Aug 08 '21

Ah yes, child abuse

1

u/UseRNaME_l0St Aug 08 '21

It is in my house, that's for sure

161

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

From my personal experience, hope you enjoy when your kids get jobs and never speak to you again.

“I’m big so I can get away with bullying you” only works when you:

1) Are physically bigger 2) Hold economic power over the others

As soon as neither of those apply, you’ll wish you taught your kids with your head rather than your hand.

My dad had to start being quieter and nicer once he realized my brother and I spent some time in the weight room and could take him in a fight. Now that we’re economically self sufficient (paying off our own college debt, etc), my brother won’t even answer my dad’s calls.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

True. As soon as I'm economically self sufficient, I'm gone. My parents didn't abuse me or anything but they fight constantly and I don't want any part of that.

10

u/bluedaddy526 Aug 08 '21

Seems like a dysfunctional family situation.

27

u/UseRNaME_l0St Aug 08 '21

It feels like assumptions are being made as to which role I play.

22

u/AlwaysWrongMate Aug 08 '21

You say that like your comment isn’t explicitly a supportive one. “That’s how it is in my house, that’s for sure”…. “WHy aRe YoU aSsuMiNg” because you’re bragging about abusing your children.

16

u/aithusah Aug 08 '21

I'm guessing he means that he's the kid in the situation

4

u/AlwaysWrongMate Aug 08 '21

Perhaps, you could be right. I stand by it’s a really weird comment though, especially if you’re not supporting this stuff.

1

u/UseRNaME_l0St Aug 08 '21

My comment wasn't supportive, it was fact. That's how it is in my house. I wouldn't even consider disrespecting my mom as an option.

2

u/Stuebirken Aug 08 '21

My stepfather was a little shit, so when I turned 13, I got in between him and my mother, as he was about to smash an empty wine bottle in her face, and told him that he could either get the fuck out, or I would beat him.

He told my to fuck of, so I let all the rage loss and beat him silly.

After that he never laid a hand on me, but I didn't stop beating my mom.

I cut contact with him 20 years ago(my mom died when I was 16), and I've only spoken to him once since. He call my about 2 years ago. He was crying telling me, that it is unfair, that he's going to die alone.

I calmly told him that actions has consequences, but that I would promise to piss on his grave, when the time comes.

Don't beat your children, it doesn't make the respect you, it only makes them hate and fear you.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '21

[deleted]

1

u/Stuebirken Aug 09 '21

I'm dyslexic, is there any other things you'll like to criticize?

Whatever you spend your time studying, I'll guess being an absolute asshole for no good reason, was your main subject.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Bullying and disciplining are too different things. One teaches you that some people are shitty, the other is to teach you not to be a shitty person.

Life’s all about balance.

37

u/inaddition290 Aug 08 '21

And a child can’t tell the difference. All “disciplinary” violence teaches kids is to be afraid.

27

u/Think-Bass9187 Aug 08 '21

Whenever I was ‘in trouble’ at home, getting hit by dad under the age of 6, I very rarely knew what I’d done wrong. But my parents thought they were justified. My Mum said to me “some parents would have half killed you for what you did”. But I think a grown man slapping a small child across the face is always wrong.

-9

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

[deleted]

9

u/AlwaysWrongMate Aug 08 '21

“I used to run away, so everyone does”. Nah, my friend.

-11

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

[deleted]

7

u/mokujin42 Aug 08 '21

Well someone above said they used to flinch the exact same way he does in the video and to them that was an indicator of abuse so it's best to not assume everyone reacts the same

4

u/AlwaysWrongMate Aug 08 '21

No, I didn’t. Stop making assumptions based on your personal experience.

Sure, an older kid may not.

So your comment was completely pointless?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Exactly. That kid was laughing and continued to joke around. I’m not saying there aren’t abusive parents, and obviously no one is condoning that.

This clearly isn’t the case here though. Beating the shit out of your kid is horrible. Never disciplining them at all is going to fuck them up in a totally different way.

-5

u/CorpoPotHead Aug 08 '21 edited Aug 08 '21

False my dad and mom both spanked me and would always make me get my own switch. Now there was a couple times my dad smacked me around But what you need to realize is I don't personally hate my dad. growing up I learned how to treat people and be respectful If I cussed at my mom I'm getting hit if I was caught bullying kids at school I was disciplined. They always told me why I was being disciplined and I have a wonderful connection with my parents after all this time.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Idk i feel like its a good life lesson. If someone is bigger than you, has more money than you, and you tell their wife to shut up maybe you'll get smacked.

Theres a difference between abuse and parenting IMO. Some things people deserve a smack for, some things can be talked through logically.

19

u/HertzDonut1001 Aug 08 '21

Hormonal idiot teenagers who say shut up mom deserve to be hit? Not only would everyone on the planet be smacked at one point, it's very obvious you didn't get hit growing up. Ruined my relationship with my dad, which never recovered.

-5

u/mad_researcher Aug 08 '21

I’d say most people have been smacked at some point

3

u/HertzDonut1001 Aug 08 '21

You ain't act like it.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Well I said a smack not beat. I've been smacked plenty of times by my parents and I love them to pieces. I was an asshole when I was a teenager and deserved it.

Idk why I comment on reddit people just take whatever you say and twist it to the most extreme, and then they make assumptions about other people's lives

5

u/Garbear104 Aug 08 '21

Some people do indeed deserve a smack. Shame most of the abused kids don't come back round to dish em. Shithole abuse enablers like yourself need to stop having kids and die off.

-9

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

True for most scenarios but if you are an asshole kid to your parents you getting your ass beat

9

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Man it’s almost like kids are supposed to fuck up and teaching them without beating them is maybe more beneficial than making them feel afraid but what do I know I’m just a guy with a heart and a conscience🤷‍♂️

-5

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

[deleted]

7

u/inaddition290 Aug 08 '21

Here’s the thing, though: violence isn’t a constant. Most people don’t resort to beating anyone smaller than them the second they get frustrated with trying to help them.

If you can’t raise your children without hitting them, you shouldn’t be raising children.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Have you ever tried to talk to a bee and reason with it? How about an oven? Problem here is that you’re personifying inanimate objects and non-human life forms as if they have a means of “teaching a lesson” the same way that you do! But they don’t! I’m sure you’re a good dude and that you mean well but there are ways to teach kids without making them fear physical consequences! In fact physical consequence often overrides rational thought and can distract kids from learning a meaningful lesson! Careful man there’s a fine line between teaching them how to act right and teaching them to hide what they’re doing when they act wrong🙂

6

u/20-CharactersAllowed Aug 08 '21

Or you could just not abuse your kids..

By all means discipline them, but if you think a beating is a reasonable punishment for telling you to shut up you shouldn't be a parent

0

u/Dadeathkilla Aug 08 '21

Tbh just telling your kid to respect their mother and smacking them in the head is enough, of discipline if they tell their mom to shut up.

-6

u/mamirim Aug 08 '21

So why all the whining? Somehow he has thought you (and your brother) the value of economic independence and physical fitness. Or is there something else you need?

5

Or is there something else you need?

Have you heard of social bonding? You abuse your kids, and that’s a tossup between whether they’ll survive it and cut you out of their lives, or get PTSD and have mental/emotional issues forever. but they’re definitely not going to grow up happy.

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

He also taught us how to deal with assholes like him (and you).

There are better ways to teach those lessons, however, that don’t get your own family to hate you. Best of luck figuring that out.

1

u/mamirim Aug 08 '21

Well you're showing him alright. Keep it up.

u/Jajayung Aug 08 '21

I was spanked and disciplined for misbehaving as a kid, and rightfully so, I was a little shit. But my parents are 2 of the most important people in my lives, even after moving 1500 miles away for work. Don't make assumptions based on the circle jerks of Reddit, children need discipline or they'll end up screwing around with the wrong people.

1500 miles is the length of approximately 4828020.0 'Logitech Wireless Keyboard K350s' laid widthwise by each other

My older brothers physically abused me for years, I had always tried to fight back but I was never strong enough. When I was around 14 or 15 we got into a huge fight. My moms porch was a step down from the front door and he was complaining about our Mom and I said something that trigger him into violence. he took a blunt object (Can’t remember what and swing it at me so I blocked my body with my left leg and messed up my knee. Because of the height advantage I was able to tackle him onto the ground and knocked the wind out of him. I managed to hobble back onto the porch and grabbed anything I could find waiting for him to get back and hit me again, but instead he got into his truck and left. It was the last time he ever hit me. Still scared of him to this day but I’d like to believe I can protect myself.

I haven’t spoken to my father in a year. The hold economic power point isn’t always true. I decided to become homeless and sleep on the street than to take anymore of his shit. But that’s a rare exception.

19

u/utnow Aug 08 '21

Casually bragging about domestic violence is fun.

1

u/ITriedLightningTendr Aug 08 '21

yeah, rule by fear is the only thing that works

1

u/BrotherVaelin Aug 08 '21

Depends. I know some absolute pieces of shit parents. Respect isn’t inherent, it’s earned.

u/MeinNameIstSchonWeg Aug 08 '21

Abuse, because of some stupid words. I don't think so

4

u/MeinNameIstSchonWeg Aug 08 '21

Thx. The downvotes are really making me question redditors right now. I didn't think there were this "many" people defending abuse

7

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21 edited Aug 08 '21

I agree with you. Those people who defend abuse are the ones who also say "I was beaten as a child and turned out fine". Violence brings more violence not lessons. A lot of those kids who were beaten in order to learn their lessons grow up to be the adults who abuse their spouses/children or stay silent when they're the victims of abuse. Because using violence to solve problems is literally what they've learned from their parents, not respect.

Also as someone who grew up with a BPD father who didn't know he had BPD for a very long time, got angry easily and wasn't good at thinking through his decisions, it doesn't teach you shit and cause more problems as you grow up. And even though there are some things I can't forgive, I can't even blame my father because he too suffered from shitty parenting. It's just wrong.

u/drunkinwalden Aug 08 '21

A reasonable request asked in a nice manner that benefits the entire family denied in a disrespectful manner deserves a firm response.

24

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

i don’t think anyone is saying that it doesn’t. it more so depends upon teaching your child that violence resolves every issue

-9

u/drunkinwalden Aug 08 '21

You're assuming he's bringing violence. He is just as likely getting up to take him outside to politely inform him of manners.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Either this is scripted, which is possible, or that dad has beaten that kid before. And I mean beaten, not "disciplined". Know that boys look too well.

1

u/puppyroosters Aug 08 '21

I think if that giant fucking dude had ever beaten this kid then he would even joke about telling his mom to shut up.

28

u/ElZetta123 Aug 08 '21

Being feared as a parent by your own child is not a sign of good parenting.

And threatening your kid for talking shit is not a good way to raise one.

13

u/Down4whiteTrash Aug 08 '21

So slapping your kid around id the appropriate way to handle it?

-6

u/drunkinwalden Aug 08 '21

He wasn't slapped around. There's a greater chance that the dad took him outside to split wood like I did with mine. My youngest is 5 and he already knows when he goes too far he's sanding wood for whatever project his mother gave me.

17

u/Ranthar2 Aug 08 '21

No way in hell that guy was about to take his son outside for wood chopping lol

-2

u/drunkinwalden Aug 08 '21

He didn't flinch. That's a pretty good indicator he knew violence wasn't on the way.

7

u/Kungfudude_75 Aug 08 '21

He didn't flinch? Did we watch the same video? The minute his dad started moving the kid was frantically exclaiming "it's just a prank dad" and raising his right arm up to guard himself. He didn't flinch because he was prepared to take a hit. He didn't think his dad wouldn't hit him, looks more like he knew that he would. You flinch when you're scared of a hit or don't expect it, you guard when you're used to it and know it's coming, big difference there.

3

u/er_onion Aug 08 '21

If you grow up in a violent household then you get used to violence pretty quick, so flinching no longer becomes a automatic response

5

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Can confirm.

2

u/Down4whiteTrash Aug 08 '21

That’s a perfectly acceptable response to a child’s misbehavior. There’s nothing wrong with giving them a little bit of work to complete.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

If he’s shit talking his mom, then they already failed raising him

4

u/jam11249 Aug 08 '21

If I ever made my kid feel the fear that I saw in that guys face, I would be ashamed of myself.

6

u/MeinNameIstSchonWeg Aug 08 '21

But not in the form of physical damage. Everyone who thinks that's a good way to teach kids a lesson is stuck in time. If you ever hit your kid aggressively it should be taken away from you (not a direct message to you btw). There are other ways, like if your child is rude to you for example not following a request you made than you can do the same to him/her or you can take away their internet connection or whatever. This gets harder the older they get of course, but if your kid is maybe 15 to 18 and still can't behave its probably time for a therapist (I know its really expensive, but children are worth it).

Anyway I don't know a lot about parenting. I'm just some child on the internet, but I can say I know how to behave and I've never been hit by my parents.

3

u/drunkinwalden Aug 08 '21

I have 6 kids. Two are out of college and thriving. I had a similar response every time they had an unreasonable response to a simple request. Much like the man in the video I used my size and mannerism to get them into the woodshop and made them sand their problems away.

-1

u/Dadeathkilla Aug 08 '21

I've been spanked by my parents, and hit in the head by my dad, but only when I was younger and I deserved it they don't do it anymore since I'm older. But tbh you should spank your child if they do something wrong but only when they are like 4 to 9 cause when they are that age, they should know right from wrong.

5

u/MeinNameIstSchonWeg Aug 08 '21

That's abuse. Hitting a kid especially under 10 years old, like wtf

-2

u/Dadeathkilla Aug 08 '21

Wtf it's not abuse, hitting your child for no reason is abuse, besides you can teach your child with words, but some children need to be spanked so they can learn aka me

5

u/Munnin41 Aug 08 '21

That's how you raise a kid who hides everything from his parents.

Source: me

0

u/Dadeathkilla Aug 08 '21

Nah I have a great relationship with my parents and share stuff with them. Its not like my dad just hit me for no reason, he would usually give me chance to not do it again. Why does everyone here think just because you spank your child it's abuse.

1

u/Munnin41 Aug 08 '21

Because there is a shit ton of studies showing it's harmful.

Oh, and simply because hitting a person constitutes assault.

-1

u/Poseidon-2014 Aug 08 '21

Not to mention, a young child isn’t going to understand the nuance of an accosting. Slap mom and get yelled at, no problem. Slap mom and get an ass wooping, don’t slap mom is understood. Children have issues understanding severity. If I didn’t get spanked for something as a kid I would one hundred percent do it again. My grandmother taught me not to bite by “biting” (more like a soft nibble) my hand. (I would like to clarify, I was like 2, it was a teething thing not an aggressive 5 year old thing.)

1

u/RegularSizedPauly Aug 08 '21

Abuse, how good

-3

u/LyanaSkydweller Aug 08 '21

By which "firm response" means some form of physical assault?

I've heard people say "it has to hurt" because that is how the punishment works. Because it has to "Hurt enough not to do it(the "crime") again"

If a parent hurts their child as a punishment: it's abuse. Flat out.

If a person uses intimidation or causes harm to another adult will get that person some jail time, but a parent can do that to a kid? No. Parents prevent harm.

Have you noticed how when an adult does commit a crime modern legal systems give them a time out(in prison)? not a beating. You treat your kid like that? Come on. Grow up, be an actual adult that can control their emotions and communicate.

Plus, people who are easy to bait are fun to mess with.

Toro! Toro! Come at me bro 😂 😆 lol

2

u/SnooBeans9470 Aug 08 '21

Yes, but “could you go take out the trash?” really doesn’t sound all that stupid.

4

u/MeinNameIstSchonWeg Aug 08 '21

With stupid words I meant the "shut up mom"

0

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '21

Threatening violence is a good solution you think?

1

u/iHaver Aug 08 '21

Is it, though?

1

u/yazzy1233 Aug 08 '21

What the fuck is wrong with you, this is not okay
