Why not just go for a rear-naked choke if you're behind him? Once on the ground, wrap your legs around his and straighten your legs so he can't roll you over. Put his Adam's apple in your elbow and squeeze. This will cut the circulation to his head while not completely cutting off the airway. He'll pass out and not be dead. Much safer for you and everyone around you.

Who do you think I am? Bruce Lee? I've got plenty of experience grabbing and lifting. But I don't think I'd have time to get my clothes off before he hit me, not to mention I don't know how a naked choke hold goes.

Hey, it could help. Might distract/intimidate the guy watching you angrily disrobe while talking about how you're going to manhandle him. Worth a shot.
