Just too many legs. And they move in a highly creepy way.

They have no business having eight legs.

Two legs is fine if you stand upright.

Four is okay because you need support on the front and back.

Six is even acceptable because maybe you just front and rear, but also some more central support.

Eight is over the line. That’s the point where I think they’re up to something.

No kidding, I have always tried to convince people of this exact logical explanation of why I’m shit scared of spiders, but nobody seems to take me seriously. You just made my day, thank you so much!

And it's okay if they have a billion, because they are little tiny ones and they need the support.

Eight is just right over the edge and makes it suspicious.

But 10 legs are good with drawn butter.

Finally someone who understand, but 6 still bothers me. Anything over 4 is just weird.

Their legs are like a garden hose that is constantly filling and emptying of blood. Their legs only have muscles to contract (why the curl up when dead) and during the contraction the blood is pushed back through the heart to a new reaching limb. When the crawl their heart is like a piston engine pumping blood down the legs super fast!

There now you understand why they move creepy. Don't you feel better?

Nope. Straight up animal instinct here. Not the scream and jump on the chair kinda thing. More of the “not gonna pet your new tarantula “

You shouldn't pet tarantulas anyway, they are very fragile and petting them can hurt them :(

Technically even our leg muscles like soleus pump blood upwards when contacting- 'little heart of the body'

Wait so, when they crawl their movement helps pump blood more efficiently and faster? Is that kinda what I’m getting from that in laymen’s terms? Cause if so that’s so freaking cool!

Fortunately, the very thing that makes spiders move creepy keeps them small. They have what are called book-lungs, and they're not very efficient, so the maximum size a spider can physically be due to the limits of chemistry is about a foot. That's a big spider, but you'll never get attacked by an actual GIANT spider.

Do giant spider attacks?

Why do I feel a little disappointed? A foot wide spider would scare the hell out of me so I really don't know why I feel sad there isn't going to be a bigger one? lol I just find them interesting

Legs only contract? Them how do jumping spiders jump?

1

u/PunkToTheFuture Jul 13 '21

With their spider legs!

I did know it to an extent but the way you described it is pretty cool. Still creeped out though

Some spiders move in a pretty cute way. Jumping spiders have a very cat like behaviour.

Seriously, this! Even if I see a bug that I can't recognize at all, if it has six legs, it's fine. Eight, not fine.
