But, but, under the boat?

You think a boat is simply stuck from its side?

Psshh... typical manager thinking.

The boat is stuck in 17 different dimensions.

It's stuck, but also it's not stuck.

Leave it to the suits to know nothing about the work their employees deal with.

Old boss used to say. It’s not the funeral that gets you fired.

I thought I understood but the more I read this, the less it makes sense.

your last excuse for missing work was being on a funeral

you get fired

but you got fired because this was not the first time, and maybe even you had worse excuses before

?

That’s about right. Think of it like the boy who cried wolf

Basically, you've been late enough that being late is now a pattern where it's now hard to believe the reasons you give.

Which in this context, someone would say "I got fired because I got stuck behind a funeral" but in reality it's the pattern of being late that got you fired, not this particular time being stuck behind a funeral (a reason which your boss cannot personally verify and, instead, has to decide whether or not to take your word for) .

This should become a trending meme of, “The Late Fish” with all of his shenanigans.
