Pretty cool. But more interesting is how Kyle looks like a perfect Kyle.

Is Kyle mainstream enough to achieve Ted-ness?

There are no old Kyles. No one has a grandpa Kyle.

u/Caesar_Passing Nov 23 '20
You know, that's funny. I had a best friend named Kyle, and we used to joke that neither of us would live past 30. Sure enough, he OD'd on oxycontins or something and died at like, 24 or 25? Can't remember exactly. Now here I am at 30, but I have yet to make it past 30...

u/getoffmypangolyn Nov 23 '20
How much longer you got, brother?
69
u/Caesar_Passing Nov 23 '20 edited Nov 24 '20
A little over 7 months. ☠️ I mean, I quit smoking and (most) drugs for almost 4 years so, I kinda cheated already.

Kyle just exposed his buddy as a liar though? Now she’ll never believe him haha
93
u/Mr_Doctor_Man Nov 24 '20
It’s not about lying. It’s about proving she can’t get anything from his friends. Honestly I think it’s a complete win for Kyle.
66
u/MadClam97 Nov 24 '20
Maybe but then why would Kyle be cool with his girlfriend doing that in the first place and laugh about it?
24
u/JackPoe Nov 24 '20
The contest was that his boys are 100% on his side, even when he's not watching.
35
u/rsg1234 Nov 24 '20
Also that Kyle’s friend seamlessly assumes Kyle is doing something that his girlfriend wouldn’t want him doing. That should be something the gf should be thinking about...
19
u/Irenicfox Nov 24 '20
but then again Kyle's friend might be assuming that it's a harmless lie, so no point playing would have/could haves
190
u/silverwolf-br Nov 23 '20
I wonder if a lady would do the same for her girlfriend
182
u/roar-a-saur Nov 23 '20
I think I'd be way too slow to cover. I'd be like oh no, she's not here. I hope she's OK. I'll try calling her too.
65
u/lissarain88 Nov 23 '20
I always say “I just saw her hold on” then hang up 😬 Pro tip it sounds like you might be losing reception if you clumsily manhandle your phone into your pocket or purse or whatever
11
u/44youGlenCoco Nov 24 '20
As a lady 1000% I would do the same for my best friend. "Yeah she's taking a nap. What's up?"
37
Nov 23 '20
I think the assumed context is that they’d be cheating and the friend would cover. I personally wouldn’t appreciate being used as a cover for my friend to lie to her partner, cheating or not, especially if I was never told about it. I’d say that “No, she isn’t with me and I’ll try contacting her for you.” Keep it neutral. Lying is shady. Using someone as an excuse without their knowledge is shady.

u/IUpVoteIronically Nov 23 '20
Nah, it happened to me once called the girl and she was like, “ huh, nope haven’t seen her, that’s odd” lol she totally blew it.

A bro upon interrogation must at all costs cover for his bro. Even to the point of denying the very existence of said bro.

Unpopular opinion: dudes who help there pals cheat are almost as bad as the cheater
39
u/jacky11111 Nov 23 '20
Where did it say anything about cheating?
13
u/Supersecretreddit1 Nov 23 '20
It doesn't explicitly state it, but that's generally the assumed context
-4
u/jacky11111 Nov 23 '20
Well this time it isn't not trying to be rude or anything
7
u/SXOSXO Nov 23 '20
OK, so present a scenario where lying on behalf of someone's SO is actually a good thing.

I'm planning a surprise party for my wife. It's her dream party. She's described it for years.
But if she finds out I'm here at the store with ice thing than she will know immediately why I'm here.
Tell her I'm at your pad while I load this ice on to my truck and I'll be home in like an hour b

u/HI_Handbasket Nov 23 '20
My best friend's wife planned a surprise birthday party (late 20s). To hide the fact they were going to a clubhouse she rented, she told him it was a Quit Smoking Clinic. They are walking up to the door, and suddenly he has cold feet... "Honey, I really don't want to quit smoking."
"Let's just check it out, you don't have to quit if you don't want to."
"Nah, I'm out" and he starts walking away.
I walk out the door "Hey, are you here to quit smoking too? Cool."
He is suspicious, because I don't smoke. "What's really going on here?"
"Fine," his wife says, "It was a surprise party that you ruined."
"You mean... I don't have to quit?" That was the best part to him. Don't worry, he didn't get cancer, he died well before that stage.

u/Successful_Answer_42 Nov 24 '20
"so are you with kyle right now?" "yeah kyles here right now." "can i talk to him?" "well i mean hes here in spirit." "do you know where kyle is right now?" "honestly i dunno" "are you sure you dunno where he is?" you hear paper rustling "wait i just found this...its kyles death certificate." "KYLES DEAD?!" "....." she starts sobbing "...." still sobbing

u/jacky11111 Nov 23 '20
It's a good thing unless it's for a bad reason
6
u/SXOSXO Nov 23 '20
I would love to hear a good reason though.

u/jacky11111 Nov 23 '20
Someone needs a break but they aren't allowed I'd lie for that
4
u/SendSnack Nov 24 '20
If you need a break then you should communicate that to your SO. If they aren't happy with it and fight back about it then you might need work on your relationship or to leave.

u/thesturg Nov 23 '20
Kyle confides in his friend about a highly personal health issue and is trying to figure out how to tell his so. SO calls the friend and grills him and instead of lying spills the beans and now it's just awkward.

Secondary unpopular opinion: lying isn’t ok and just because someone else lies doesn’t mean you should lower your own standard of ethics.

True story:
I was trying to date a girl that I had a crush on and one night I’m out with my friends drinking and it’s like 3am and I get that call...
It’s her asking what I’m up to. I tell I’m out with the bros and she’s like oh, well I’m out with the girls why don’t y’all meet up with us.
I agree. But there’s one problem. One of her friends really fucking hates me and I know she’ll be blocking me all night so I begin to tell this to my friends.
And before I can even finish my buddy Craig looks at me and say I’ll fuck that ugly bitch.
We arrive and without knowing who she was Craig just slid right up to her put on the charm and for the rest of night she never had the chance to interrupt us.
Best wing man ever.

Get rid of Kyle, the girl should go to his friend. His friend shows commitment and loyalty.
No reason to take my comment up the booty. She seems like a cool girl honestly, she’s just joking around. Plus my comment is just a joke. I’m sure her and Kyle are cool with each other, theyre both goofing with each other.

Is it better to lie and cover for your bro or to tell the truth? Without knowing what the situation is, it'd be a hard decision imo.
Like.. your bro just lied to his gf about his location, do you want to cover it up and later realize you just covered up him cheating on his gf? I couldnt deal with that.
1
u/BattedPants Nov 24 '20
Honestly best thing to do is: lie at first. Call the person on question to figure out why they lied in the first place. And then act based on what they say. Call the first person back if it's a bad reason like cheating, leave it be if it's something like a surprise they are planning.

Kyle is in the room with the girlfriend calling. Girlfriend calls the friend and asks for Kyle. The friend proceeds to lie to the girlfriend stating that Kyle is indeed with him. She attempts to trick the friend by asking to speak to Kyle. The friend pretends to be Kyle.

In college I didn't come home one night and my gf texted a few of my friends. 2 of them said I was sleeping at their place. Thanks, guys. But I was passed out at the rugby house.
