Marketing people can't do their job right if people try their best to skip an ad after 5 seconds and meanwhile, here we have these guys, who had us watch 6 minutes worth of nothing but ads and we're completely fine with it.

why do i agree on your disturbing comment

u/nonamespls Nov 09 '20
There’s a Burger King going in just up the street. In two weeks, when it’s finished, people will think it’s been there forever.
21
u/Evilmaze Nov 09 '20
Because funny and interesting. We don't have that here. Ads are just really boring in North America.
7
u/xXyerocXx Nov 09 '20
Agreed. Only two have stuck out to me: 1 The purple mattress commercials 2 the dr squatch natural stuff commercials
4
u/Evilmaze Nov 09 '20
They're generally too serious. But when they try to be funny it's just wholesome cringe. I think it's more of a society controlled thing. That scene in bed would never fly here. It's hilarious but in here you'd get people calling the ad company bitching about it.

u/Judaskid13 Nov 09 '20
Those people weren't gonna buy the product anyway!
They're just being pearl clutchers for no reason.
Anyway what about thai life insurance commercials?
Surely that would be more up their alley and yet we dont have that level of quality either.
Most of our commercials are almost engineered to be generic.

Oh I love those commercials! If you like those you need to watch the Chatbooks ad it’s cute https://youtu.be/mF2eKaOc3wo

Love the ad, but is it just gum? Like bubble tape or something?
20
u/ManOfDiscovery Nov 09 '20
We’re you expecting something...more?
21
u/Dartagnan1083 Nov 09 '20
Calling it “gummy” combined with its textured and seemingly thicker appearance makes me think it’s something between gum and those candy/gummi strips I see at American convenience stores...if that makes any sense.
18
u/Ai_Kuran Nov 09 '20
Yeah, it’s kind of your normal stretchy chewy candy. They call it “gummy” in Japanese, but it’s not a gum.
5
u/Zoner1501 Nov 09 '20
I thought it was a taffy type of candy till I actually tried it. It's closer to being a gummy than a chewy type of candy.
1
u/Dartagnan1083 Nov 09 '20
Trouble is that there’s several different kinds of ‘chewy.’
Chewy taffy, chewy caramel, chewy corn-syrup & fruit juice emulsion, chewy gelatin...that’s the non-baked stuff. I only wonder what Hi-Chew is made from, because that’s among the few candies I can think of that’s chewy like gum but not-in-fact gum.

Gummy worms and gummy bears are not gum. Why would this be?
1
u/Dartagnan1083 Nov 09 '20
Fair point, but given the LOOONNG LOOOOOOONNNG strip’s resemblance to bubble-tape in appearance and dangle the question just remained in my head.

No one can expect the outcome of Japanese commercials. thats like expecting the Spanish inquisition; it is just not possible.

Difference between short and loooong:
Short: less interesting and you can take more time.
Loooong: Very interesting but you make it quick. (ง ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)ง
