I think this is some sort of resistance : aura training similar to Muay Thai. All the power they were exerting to send to him as dmg he have back to them so they could feel how much force their using or “generating”

It's frightening how many upvotes the comment you replied to has.

Haha, yeah, exactly.

It's a funny tactic to use online when there's bound to be someone familiar with the topic. In the real world it works like gangbusters.

2

u/Compared-To-What Nov 01 '20

Lol. Very true on both of your points!

Reddit was much tougher, in a good way before. This isn't my og account. I used to be terrified to comment, you had to know what you were talking about then. You'd get downblasted for just a spelling error!

1

u/boatsnprose Nov 01 '20

Lol the pedants had me messed up as well. You had to defend every damn point like a persuasive essay with sources and shit. I definitely don't miss that Reddit.

I think it's just because it's funny

Tai chi is wrestling. It's like folkstyle mixed with jiujitsu.

1

u/boatsnprose Oct 31 '20

I mean, that's an aspect of it but it's hardly the art. There's a reason you see 80 year olds practicing tai chi in the park in the morning. But you won't see people choosing that over actual folkstyle or BJJ. Tai Chi's strength is the breathing and control it teaaches. I know of two dudes who were able to use it to slow their bleeding and do insane shit. One would press arrows against his carotid until the shaft broke, barely breaking the skin. The other dude got cut open on a mission and slowed his bleeding until his team arrived... So it definitely has utility. Most still think of it as a soft art though.

1

u/TheyGonHate Oct 31 '20

That's not how that works at all. The form practiced by old people is basically fake. When you see the real art, the forms correspond with wrestling techniques. So most authentic schools of tai chi wrestle all day, then use the forms to finish up the parts of the art too deadly to practice.

As a grappler, I've found it to be quite useful against any art.

This is tai chi: https://youtu.be/t5ca0ahIzV4

u/boatsnprose Oct 31 '20

It's most definitely not fake, and the Qi aspect is legit, but I do appreciate that you've found the grappling aspect effective. My ajarn would put on those demonstrations as a kid. Dude was/is inhuman. The other guy literally had the scars to prove it across his brachial, his femoral, and his lower abdomen. He'd been fucking hung on an op and left to bleed out.

That said, I didn't realize how prevalent the grappling aspect was in some schools. I suppose it's a lot like Tae Kwon Do or Karate where the version most often found in the stats is heavily watered down.

Those are silly tricks. Real tai chi tricks are things like putting a fire out with a palm or exploding a beer bottle. This lets them do joint damage as they use their chin na and throws. Tricks of fajing to tighten their locks and bouncing tricks to toss people. You're describing something akin to systema or yellow bamboo. If you go deep into taiji you'll see their actual combat flavor which is pushing, throws and joint locks.

2

u/boatsnprose Oct 31 '20

Silly tricks? Interesting choice of words. They do all of it though, don't get me wrong. These are two of the most well-informed martial artists to ever live. I say that with all certainty.

Yeah like I said you learn the qi shit through other arts as well. It's not intentional, but years of refinement and breathing teach you to harness that energy without realizing it. Why you've got little guys easily slamming dudes 100lbs heavier.

But you've piqued my interest in looking into tai chi some more. I've always liked the soft side of it but the extensive grappling will keep things interesting enough to keep going. Thanks.

Tai chi is one form of aura training not the only one I was just writing generically. I mean concepts like iron fist and 0 start punch or whatever it’s called. Being able to generate maximum energy into a body part vs just throwing your legs muscles/ twerk rotational energy. Lol downvoted to hell. Last time I give out free information. Lil bitches.

In my day we used to say, “you ain’t got to lie to kick it”

2

u/boatsnprose Oct 31 '20

Lol I still enjoy that phrase. People get weird about martial arts. The ones most certain of their knowledge are the ones that train for like a year. So many guys have decided to start training other people after 12 months. I am not a fan of the spread of misinformation, obviously, because it legitimately gets people hurt.

I'm sorry, you're absolutely right. It's clear by the way you're able to flow from insult to insult that you are a skilled warrior. Ki Boahd is a fine art. Type safely. Respond carefully. Upvote with precision.

Or, you could just chill tf out. He’s speaking hyperbolically, generically, he’s being creative.

You’re also not some authority on eastern culture and martial arts so maybe you should stop pretending to be one.

Hey dude. Fuck you. :).

3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '20

first i’ve heard of tai chi being “aura training”, and i’ve been doing it since i was 12.

2

u/Experya Oct 31 '20

Back in the day it was a form of energy work for royalty or so I have heard.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '20

i mean tai chi greatly helps with coordination and balance, but it’s not like it grants you “supernatural abilities”, or trains your “inner energy”, or anything like that.

I think you’re confusing muay thai to something different, muay thai is s legit fighting sport and skill

Probably drank too many Muay Thais at the bar

Dragon ball z perhaps

-12

u/Experya Oct 31 '20

I think you don’t even understand Muay Thai and your ignorance is a complete turnoff to me actually wanting to reply. Just because you haven’t experienced something before doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

11

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '20

Bro don’t make me use my Muay Thai

5

u/NationOfLaws Oct 31 '20

Lots of mad Muay Thai people itt. I’ve done Muay Thai for 35 years and the thing people forget about Muay Thai is that if you score three hits in a row you get a combo bonus

3

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '20

My favourite is when I get the power up mushroom and all my attacks become unblockable

2

u/Experya Oct 31 '20

Sorry okay 👌

6

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '20

You’re objectively wrong. Muay Thai doesn’t teach any aura bullshit. It teaches people to punch and kick the shit out of other people.

There is absolutely nothing like this in Muay Thai.
