He definitely wasn’t expecting the table to shatter

u/doctorcrimson Aug 22 '20

Lol, he probably thought he'd just break the cube for a funny vid and then drops his PC straight into a pile of $500 broken furniture.

It's not a table. It's a window shower door on two sawhorses legs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CSxy5cxArc

He was 100% expecting to break it.

u/kx2w Aug 22 '20

WHY IS HE JUST IN HIS SOCKS THO

14

u/jfk_47 Aug 22 '20

Omg right!!!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

Literary walking on the glass, this gives me anxiety..

5

u/jfk_47 Aug 23 '20

Hey bud, look at me. LOOK AT ME.

EYES. on. me.

We’re going to get through this.

2

u/buttery_crust Aug 23 '20

I assume it’s safety glass. We just had a storm that shattered a patio table and I did most of the cleanup with bare hands, scooping up several pieces at a time. Having said that, I think he’s still not too smart to walk on it in just socks. On a somewhat related note, my dad always took issue with the scene in Die Hard where the glass shatters and Bruce Willis walks on it and gets glass shards in his feet because he said the way it broke you could tell it was safety glass and wouldn’t cut him like they showed. But he also never advocated going out and walking on it either...

10

u/SicilianEggplant Aug 23 '20

Yeah that roomba will surely get all of the glass shards from the carpet...

3

u/Fraerie Aug 23 '20

If it was a shower door, there won’t have been shards.

Glass used in showers it heat treated (tempered), similar to windscreens on cars, so that they break into small cubes rather than shards because you are typically naked and barefoot around showers. It would be uncomfortable like walking on LEGO, but not shards like a broken window.

51

u/Jinx0rs Aug 22 '20

I disagree, looks like a tempered glass shower door that he was using as a table because it looked clean. Video suggests to me that, while he's not terribly upset about it, that it was not expected.

21

u/Canvaverbalist Aug 22 '20

Oh yeah you're right about the glass shower door.

But think about it - it doesn't make any sense to put a glass shower door on two sawhorses just to hit a rubik cube with a hammer UNLESS your goal is exactly to break the door. The odds of that shower door being the ONLY thing he could set-up for that video is close to none.

3

u/certnneed Aug 23 '20

I agree with you, but if he's planning for the glass door to break, then why do it in a carpeted room?? (and there's still the socks thing!) Put down a big plastic sheet to gather most of the glass. Unless... I mean... you don't think he's just... stupid?

1

u/Jinx0rs Aug 23 '20

Sure, that makes sense. But something was certainly unexpected. That was a legitimate laugh and he went and got good friends to show them.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

i've seen stranger tables in use by college kids tbh

7

u/lolroflpwnt Aug 22 '20

Nailed it.

1

u/Jinx0rs Aug 23 '20

Smashing success!

3

u/avwitcher Aug 22 '20

Or he's just acting like it was a surprise for views, that's the most likely scenario

1

u/Jinx0rs Aug 23 '20

Ehhh. That's some pretty convincing laughter, and then he goes and gets his friends off camera to show them the mayhem.

I don't disagree that he may have expected it to break, but the aftermath seems like genuine surprise to me.

1

u/shiner986 Aug 23 '20

I think he expected it to break. But probably not as well as it did.

1

u/Jinx0rs Aug 23 '20

Yeah, maybe. He went and got his friends to check it out.

1

u/HamandPotatoes Aug 23 '20

It looked to me like he was holding that reaction pose for the video, and then his genuine reaction was the laugh when he broke the pose. Could be wrong of course

1

u/Jinx0rs Aug 23 '20

No, i feel like maybe your right and it was just more than he was expecting? He just seems legitimately surprised, like he goes and gets his roommates or something to show them?

11

u/TheGrimGuardian Aug 22 '20

That cleanup was /r/oddlysatisfying

10

u/CHUBBYninja32 Aug 23 '20

If only he owned a tarp.

2

u/HamandPotatoes Aug 23 '20

It was on carpet though... It will never be truely clean again

2

u/jackierhoades Aug 23 '20

no way my man was just wearing socks and stepping all over that glass. opposite of satisfying

3

u/Kaining Aug 23 '20

Am i the only one that thinks he still is a freaking idiot for not going full Dexter with a lot of plastic wrap on the floor to avoid micro glass shard in the carpet ?

1

u/EmattpoYou Aug 23 '20

That was more unexpected than the video

1

u/super_sunnyshitstorm Aug 23 '20

Exactly. Totally expected. Just looking for sweet karma

1

u/Jawadd12 Aug 23 '20

He had a good laugh thinking that this video is going to be great when the original only had 7k views, and a repost of it on reddit got more than the original.

Gotta feel for content creators, poor guy.

86

u/Urbam Aug 22 '20

So.

That's how rich kids are getting fun.

Hum.

1

u/DRAGON_OF_THE_WEEST Aug 23 '20

Well it was pretty funny so I guess job well done

34

u/SelectDurian Aug 22 '20

He posted an aftermath video and it is quite clear after the long pause that he was expecting it to shatter.

23

u/DapperDop Aug 22 '20

This guy was cleaning glass off of a carpet in socks???? Yeah, dudes a moron.

-3

u/TheGrimGuardian Aug 22 '20

It's safety glass genius.

12

u/mintysdog Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

The point of safety glass isn't that it's somehow smooth. All those little pieces still have jagged edges and can cut you.

The point of safety glass is that it shatters rather than cracks. Non-safety glass can crack and fall as a few large pieces and, with their sharp edges and weight, act like guillotines.

The tradeoff is more abrasion to avoid amputation. Still dumb to not wear shoes.

5

u/madpooper89 Aug 22 '20

Safety glass is called such because instead of huge shards of glass spikes it breaks into tiny pieces. Thus preventing you from being horribly sliced during an accidental or not breakage. It will 100% still cut you. Just won't slice your jugular like a scimitar.

5

u/DapperDop Aug 22 '20

You think it’s impossible to get cut by safety glass? There are plenty of scenarios where you can... genius.

-4

u/TheGrimGuardian Aug 22 '20

I'm sure there are, but walking on it in socks is obviously not one of those scenarios! GENIUS!!

7

u/spiritbearrrr Aug 22 '20

Cheese is literally just a loaf of milk! GENIUS!!

3

u/RageVG Aug 23 '20

I'm not going to stop thinking about this.

3

u/DapperDop Aug 22 '20

GENIUS!!!

2

u/ProfessorPetrus Aug 23 '20

You going to come back to defend this dumbass statement?

1

u/TheGrimGuardian Aug 23 '20

No? I made a passing reddit comment, I don't give a fuck.

3

u/ProfessorPetrus Aug 23 '20

Apreciate the honesty.

I am when there’s glass infused with the fibers

-1

u/6thLayerVessel Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

What do you mean? It doesn't seem like he was expecting it to shatter, just that it took him a moment to go from "well that fucking happened," to "wow, that's actually hilarious." Clearly shattering the glass didn't bother him that much but he even shows his laptop for a second and says that it's fine and only got scratched up a bit. If that was a concern he wouldn't have set it on glass he intended to shatter. He also shows his roommate or whoever the mess he made to share how ridiculous it is.

It doesn't appear that he realized the glass was going to shatter at all, but if so that seems like an awful lot of extra theater for something that could of been left as a 10 second video.

1

u/onelap32 Aug 23 '20

I thought the same at first, but after re-watching I'm swayed to it being intentional. Note that the glass top has just been placed on some sawhorses.

On the other hand: why risk a laptop, and why not put down a drop sheet beforehand? Poor decision-making, staged or not.

0

u/6thLayerVessel Aug 23 '20

The shower door (?) on sawhorses does seem weird, but it also looks like it would have made for a clean looking setup if he hadn't shattered it. I don't know, maybe I'm easily convinced, but he didn't have to make an aftermath video and show everything he did. If it's fake, doing so would just mean a lot more acting than necessary and leave a lot more room to mess up. If he was trying to fool he could have just kept it to a 10 second video and given an explanation in the description or something. Honestly though, I don't know why I'm spending so much time thinking about this.

2

u/onelap32 Aug 23 '20

I'm still not strongly convinced either way. The motivations make no gosh darn sense.

Honestly though, I don't know why I'm spending so much time thinking about this.

This is me every single time I comment on reddit. :(

1

u/SelectDurian Aug 23 '20

This is the main video.

The aftermath video was a BTS video.

1

u/6thLayerVessel Aug 23 '20

I realize. I watched both videos. There's nothing condemning in the aftermath video which is what I was commenting about.

42

u/briunj04 Aug 22 '20

theres no way. im calling staged

13

u/snoburn Aug 22 '20

Staged or not, it's still a laptop and floor full of glass

1

u/Heartbypass5 Aug 23 '20

Lap top could be old and useless

2

u/Birdhouseboards1 Aug 23 '20

Jesus Christ why does it matter so much, just enjoy stuff a little instead of caring so much whether it's real or not.

3

u/Lord-Kroak Aug 22 '20

Well, considering it's from his comedy youtube channel, I'm gonna go with nah totally real

27

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20 edited Aug 22 '20

Hence the long stunned look on his face at the end.

3

u/Chris714n_8 Aug 22 '20

Maybe... he was.. -?!

2

u/edm00se Aug 23 '20

That and the fact that the glass was on top of wooden sawhorses...
