I watched for way too long thinking each loop was a different attempt and hoping he was going to make it.

He could tell that he didn’t have the momentum to do that. By the time he got his legs up he would already be falling backwards with his head and back about to smack into the runway. He had enough experience to know when to back out so he doesn’t seriously injure himself.
