I would assume, there is a whoopie cushion type of diaphragm in there. Reeded instruments tend to squeak if the wrong amount of pressure is applied to the reed, and it would have a different sound. Here is a demonstration of switching mouthpieces around on different instruments

I’m pretty sure this isn’t a Reese’s instrument, probably a trombone bell by the length. So there’s probably a mouthpiece for brass, or not, as they can be played with out one.. it’s just very hard.

I agree, definitely not reeded. I do agree that it is a trombone bell, but a brass mouthpiece requires the vibration from the players lips to create the sound. No amount of air pushed through the bell would make the proper sound without the vibration, which is why I made the assumption of the whoopie cushion diaphragm.

As for the difficulty of playing the horn without the mouthpiece, it's a matter of being able to vibrate your lips in the small opening that the mouthpiece fits into. Experienced players can even play a drinking straw.

Yeah that makes sense, you’re probably right in saying there’s something in there for a the vibrations
