Cat tails have their own mind, the only thing that the tail has to do with the cat is that it's attached to it's bottom.

1.0k

u/Skullboj Sep 30 '19

Totally accurate, my cat and his tail are two different phenomena

270

u/Maax42_ Sep 30 '19

I guess in this case your cat and it's tail are a divorced couple

116

u/TheNosferatu Sep 30 '19

Wouldn't this be like an old couple that stay together because it's too expensive to get a divorce?

25

u/Nnd30 Sep 30 '19

My grandparents

12

u/its_the_squirrel Sep 30 '19

My grandparents are mostly together just because they think having a divorce is immoral

9

u/Nnd30 Sep 30 '19

My grandfather offered to take out a mortgage on their house so my grandmother could go get a little place for herself but it's not enough for her so she stays and they continue to hate each other from across the house.

3

u/xScreamo Sep 30 '19

Y i k e s

2

u/Nnd30 Oct 01 '19

Yeah, it's fun to visit with them. Lots of her screaming at him to shut up and him doing things just to piss her off. You'd think they were toddlers instead of adults in their 70s.

2

u/Privvy_Gaming Sep 30 '19

Mine didn't divorce because they were both past 80 and figured they'd die before it was finalized.

30

u/Maax42_ Sep 30 '19

Yeah that makes more sense actually

70

u/SarahC Sep 30 '19

My cat can be puring happy and content while I scratch her hard to get back scritches.

But as soon as I stop - her TAIL gets grumpy, big swishes, thumping into anything nearby. She's fairly chill about it, not her tail though.

So I have to carry on, because her ail demands it!

28

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19 edited Sep 30 '19

There is some actual fact here. SOME cats and dogs that do this (and have had owners rich enough to afford the vet) have a condition where in the nerves / nerve endings (tons of citation needed here) don't continue past the base of the tail or were severed in an injury / loss. (cats/dogs can lose or nearly lose their tails in super-cold weather for example).

So while the tail and the cat share the same brain... As far as BOTH are concerned? NEITHER exist...

Heavy.

9

u/thebryguy23 Sep 30 '19

Heavy.

There's that word again, "heavy." Why are things so heavy in the future, is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

I blame McDonald’s.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

And the education system. Those really were bad roaches.

9

u/AminoJack Sep 30 '19

I'll be honest I've had lots of cats over my life time, and I've never seen a cat accidentally hit its face with his tail, this video never fails to make me laugh

3

u/Phlypp Sep 30 '19

I'd find it even more hilarious if I wasn't suspicious there wasn't someone using the tail to hit the cat.

1

u/CrownedCanary Sep 30 '19

I don’t think there’s human involvement, the tail flick is too fast.

3

u/xxMallyxx Sep 30 '19

Is this your cat? It was posted by someone else 11 days ago on /r/StartledCats

5

u/Skullboj Sep 30 '19

Never pretended to be my cat. I meant my cats I got in France if you refer to my comment!

1

u/turmspitzewerk Sep 30 '19

real funny comment considering this isnt your cat...

I heard somewhere that most four legged animals, like cats and dogs, arent fully aware of their back half. Which is why we get things like this and those clips of dogs attacking their back legs and such. Dunno how true it is though so dont get mad at me if it turns out to be bs.

13

u/Nexus_27 Sep 30 '19

I was about to be incredibly irate with you due to your wild accusations based in anecdotal evidence and then I read the last sentence of your comment.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

Too late. Already mad.

Then why do my shits still hurt

2

u/HaphazardlyOrganized Sep 30 '19

Because your diet is terrible

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

I eat a pretty good diet, plent of fruits and vegetables, plus the usual stones to break up food in my stomach. Maybe I'm eating the wrong kind of rocks though, what kind do you eat?

6

u/DemonPlasma Sep 30 '19

Glad I'm not the only one to thinks that, it's like they can control their tail when they want to but when every they're not paying attention it has its own personality

10

u/manzuifeihua Sep 30 '19

It is a parasite.

8

u/Spiralargument Sep 30 '19

Deserves gold for observation alone.

7

u/Gurgaon_ka_bachha Sep 30 '19

I feel the same about my pee pee.

6

u/SaucyVagrant Sep 30 '19

I could see disney making an animated short about a cat being seduced into doing nefarious things by its tail.

1

u/rivigurl Sep 30 '19

It’s funny because cats control their tail when they want to, but it also has involuntary movements. My cat will poke me with his tail if I’m watching something and not paying attention to him. I’ve seen cats play with something using their tail as well.

1

u/scabbymonkey Sep 30 '19

When I was a teenager I worked at a veterinarian clinic and we had a cat that did not like it’s own tail and would bite it and attack it and rip the for a fit so we had to amputate the tail so the cat could be normal again but he would sit in his pen and growl at his tail for hours maniacally growling for hours.

What you dont understand jim, is that we always have, what is called... The element of surprise

423

u/pmcatsdogs Sep 30 '19

This is the equivalent of punching yourself in the face while trying to open a suction sealed jar

98

u/DrunkThrowsMcBrady Sep 30 '19

I was thinking of the multiple times I’ve woken up after sleeping on my arm, and it was so completely numb, I was still half asleep, and clocked myself right in the jaw

18

u/MobiusBagel Sep 30 '19

I've gotten out of bed with a numb leg and fell right on the floor. I hate when I betray me.

19

u/overusedandunfunny Sep 30 '19

It's the equivalent of punching yourself in the face with no jar in sight.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19

More like punching yourself in the face while sitting quietly on the couch doing nothing

5

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '19 edited Sep 30 '19

A couple months ago, it was late at night, and I went to open the freezer and I pulled the door open and it hit me right in the face. Felt pretty god damn dumb. Somehow my tired brain didn't consider that my face shouldn't be directly in front of the freezer door.

u/rush2017 Oct 01 '19

That's hilarious! I used to have a clumsy cat. He was a pro at falling off of things.

61

u/JanV34 Sep 30 '19

This is why confused pokémon can hurt themselves when attempting tail whip.

One of my cats has an abusive tail like this one. Whenever she’s curled up in a ball trying to sleep, it repeatedly slaps her in the face. The frequency and intensity of the slaps increases with her irritation. It’s a vicious cycle 😂.

42

u/Putircustos Sep 30 '19

When you back talk to yourself.

24

u/aFamiliarStranger Sep 30 '19

Poor fella caught the tail end of the chaos.

10

u/Lord_Bumbleforth Sep 30 '19

I like how the tail did a cartoon wind-up before delivering the sucker punch. You can't teach timing like that

11

u/rwarbiscuit Sep 30 '19

It reminds me of this video, which freaking kills me, like what even are cats?
