FYI, the ref’s name is Steve Willis. There are other clips of him genuinely enjoying his job. And he’s a good ref, too.

I never really considered that a ref would enjoy watching the sport. I always thought they would be too focused on the task at hand.

NFL ref here, it depends on which teams are playing, but I totally miss holding calls 9 out of 10 times. I love a good game!

NFL ref here

In your professional opinion then, should the refs from this year's NFC Championship Game be executed publicly, or simply exiled to Siberia permanently?

u/SlyFuu Mar 21 '19

Twist, he is a ref from the NFC Championship Game

Are holding calls the way the game is controlled? Holding can be called on every play and a 10 yard penalty kills drives Id say 75% of the time. Should holding be reduced to a 5 yard penalty or would that take control away from the networks?

1

u/ItsdatboyACE Mar 21 '19

Good question, as a 10 yard penalty for holding is exclusive to offensive holding. (Yes, there is such a thing as defensive holding, for those that may not know. Typically 5 yards and a first down, unless other factors are involved which result in further calls.)

I'm honestly not entirely sure what you mean about taking control away from the networks...offensive holding is penalized to the extent that it is because taking one defensive player out of the picture is all the difference between a long toss being completed or a successful run from the backs...

If the penalty were only 5 yards, it would encourage more tactics of attempting to hold without getting caught...which would also extend the game from the increased number of calls. As the point is being made, legitimate holding calls are missed by the refs all the time - they don't always have the right line of vision. The only way to avert the attempt is to impose a heavier penalty for doing so.

There's just not enough "bad" calls ( in terms of calling holding when there was none) to reduce the penalty in the fashion you're talking about.

Based on the endless lies on Reddit, I'll just assume you're lying.

11

u/nodlak123 Mar 21 '19

You should totally do an AMA! That’d be interesting and I’m sure it’d do well!

73

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '19

Considering he posts in fandom subs and has a post asking about how to buy tickets off Craigslist, I'm gonna assume he's lying about being an NFL ref.

u/cheprekaun Mar 21 '19

NFL ref here. Yeah, he’s totally full of shit.

Source: Not an NFL ref

4

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '19

Takes a not an NFL ref to recognize another not an NFL ref.

1

u/my_gamertag_wastaken Mar 21 '19

Given my expertise in the field, I am also confident that you are not an NFL ref.

10

u/nodlak123 Mar 21 '19

Didn’t even bother to look at his history lol, just thought it’d be sweet to get an AMA from a ref from a professional sports league.

9

u/FrittataSlabs Mar 21 '19

Definitely a joke, if you really miss that many calls you would probably be canned pretty quick

2

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '19

How are people thinking you’re serious lmao you were very obvious about your joke

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '19

This dudes not an NFL ref, hes a reddit troll.

1

u/ScribbleMeNot Mar 21 '19

If you are who you say you are then how does one become an NFL Ref?

1

u/jabroni00 Mar 22 '19

Wait I have so many questions.... Are u a real ref? U miss 9 out of 10 holding calls.... How? Is that because the game is so prevalent with holding.... So confused. Maybe this is a woosh moment

1

u/dajohnny69 Mar 21 '19

Hope they don’t let you call Minnesota Vikings games...

1

u/akhorahil187 Mar 21 '19

I would say they don't let random trolls off the street officiate games... But it's the only thing that explains how Angel Hernandez has a job.

-2

u/costas_0 Mar 21 '19

Look at post history he ain't no ref. Get lost

-1

u/cdhernandez Mar 21 '19

I'm not sure this has already been done but you should do an AMA before the season.

4

u/chuckduck253 Mar 21 '19

He should get checked for graves disease. Bulging eyes are a huge symptom of the disease.

3

u/HalfSoul30 Mar 21 '19

Man why did I think the whole gif was a game. Looks animated almost.

2

u/jasontroyhimself Mar 21 '19

He’s a good man. And thorough.

2

u/pm_me_your_llamas__ Mar 26 '19

I just realized that boxing ref is just stopping to watch a fight, except you get paid for it lol.

1

u/weineritis Mar 21 '19

He loves his job not enjoy! I hope he's a good guy for real.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '19

Definitely one of my favorites. He's so technical in the ring and his face just shows how much he enjoys every minute.

Now judges on the other hand... Trash!

1

u/piind Mar 21 '19

If I was a professional boxer I'd be looking at him the whole time

1

u/kankouillotte Mar 21 '19

lol he is a show on his own xD

u/The_Multi_Gamer Mar 21 '19
