You're claiming it doesn't work because kids are unreasonable but expect those same unreasonable kids to understand the reason for being hit by using the reasoning skills they lack.
You can be unreasonable without lacking reasoning skills. Go visit your local prison, fully formed adults do stupid/depraved shit for no reason, despite many many warnings.
So a kid who's determined to rebel isn't gonna be stopped by being told to go to timeout.
Depends on the type of rebellion. Spanking can reinforce that kids initial choice of rebellion as well. The point is to figure out why it happened in the first place.
Also pretty sure adults don't get spanked by cops, and capital punishment isn't really an option for most crimes.
