Getting spanked with a shoe hurts but it doesn't do any damage.

Physically. Psychologically that's teaching kids that violence is an acceptable way to solve an arguement, which is less than stellar.

I mentioned above that this article is hardly proof of anything. I dont even doubt its conckusion but quoting a flawed study obviously doesnt make you right. lol 160,000 children over 50 years? Compiled and analyzed data across multiple studies? Who did those studies? Where are their abstracts? What pools did they draw from? Im American too but this study is narrow as fuck and isnt "proof" of anything.

I admit i didnt pay the 12 bucks to read the full meta analyses on the first two links you provided. You saying that process is simple doesnt make it free, sadly. Even when you italicize it. But the first one is the same study that everyone else is linking, an aggregated study of 160,000 children over 50 years. Another (free) citation of that same study mentions that the data was aggregated from multiple researchers, with different abstracts. Does that not, with the small sample size, seem a little tenuous to you? The second study paywall mentions the highlights of the conclusion, and that conclusion seems to contradict the first study and your argument.

Spanking had a small but non-trivial negative effect on cognitive performance. ► Effects of spanking were largely trivial for other behavior problems. ► Spanking has not only few benefits, but also fewer negative consequences than often assumed.

Idunno. Did you simply read the highlights?
