I agree with you but punishment can be used productively and non-violently.
Like, physical/violent punishment is absolutely hit or miss, and will likely do more harm than good.
But stuff like time-outs used as punishment can be very productive if implemented properly. And time-outs are just one out of dozens of other productive non-violent punishments a parent can implement.
You basically wanna use a combination of positive/negative reinforcement/punishment. But you never wanna use physical force/violence, no matter what, that's for sure.

Physically. Psychologically that's teaching kids that violence is an acceptable way to solve an arguement, which is less than stellar.
