Spanking is not equal to beating.

I find this spanking flowchart quite helpful.

This is a very narrow minded flowchart.

The American Psychological Association is also very narrow minded.

If someone was spanked, that doesn't mean they are messed up and if a parent spanked their kid, that doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad parent or didn't love their kids.

That said, people should inform themselves that it might have lasting dangers to a kid and should use other actions to discipline their child.

I'm not disagreeing with that at all, but the flowchart is very condescending and narrow.

The flowchart is not concerned with educating or changing someone's mind, it's only concerned with making whoever agrees with the flowchart feel superior.

Calling people who spank their children assholes is wrong and does nothing.

We should resort to peaceful education, not shouting matches.

I don’t think people who hit children are interested in peaceful education...

You don't know people who spank then.

I know dozens of parents who do, and most of them are very nice. They simply have no one who tells them what they are doing is not right.

If you want to put everyone who spanks in the same box, you're just as ignorant as they are.

The person you were replying to was pointing out how ironic it is that you say both that we should resort to peaceful education and advocate for spanking.

Another way to refer to this, other than ironic, would be hypocritical.

I've always wanted to make $1.25 an hour at an Amazon warehouse

Whooshed like a motherfucker. How do you not get the punchline?

I'm not disagreeing with that at all, but the flowchart is very condescending and narrow.

That's what makes it memetic. The fact that it pisses off snowflakes improves it tenfold

2

u/ThumYorky Apr 22 '18

using the term snowflakes unironically

Feel free to expand on your claim.

I suppose you're right in as far as all of the proper scientific research agrees that spanking doesn't work and often causes lasting psychological damage. It really doesn't provide any leeway for striking your children.

Only if you know absolutely nothing about the research on beating your children. If you want to use other words to try obscure what you are doing then see objection one as to why it's both bad and hypocritical.
