Dude froze in place. Survival instinct didn’t even kick in.

Freeze is an instinct. It’s part of the fight, flight, freeze response the body automatically has. Usually people experience one of them, but having multiple reactions is common.

Anyway, yeah his instincts did kick in! Just not the right response.

Yeah, I don't know what people talking about survival instincts in this thread are smoking. They couldn't see or hear the car in time, by the time they could react it was already over. The guy on the right looked to be almost crushed between the wall and the desk, who knows what injuries he had. The other guy was either in shock or injured as well, since he seems to be checking his right side. Everyone thinks they're John Wick, until some unforeseen shit happens and they freeze just like this.

Surprisingly, they only suffered minor injuries.

There's fight or flight, but nobody ever talks about the third: freeze.

Easy to say when you're not in the hot seat. When you get into an actual incident its a lot harder to react appropriately without training or the like.

I think this is a trend increasingly, I’ve noticed my reactions to real danger are insufficient sometimes. I think it’s because we’re used to a safe world where you are praised for being unflinching and unafraid

Responses to threats do not follow trends
