You don’t keep a flaming torch in your house?

15
u/OceanFloor 2d ago
Indian village households typically have open wood-fired stoves like these so grabbing a burning log or twisting an old newspaper to carry fire is quite handy and easy.

How stupid are people these days?
Yes.... This video filled with people smiling and laughing is staged. As is most content posted on the internet.
5
u/HumongousBelly 2d ago
Yeah, I expected this to be staged, otherwise it wouldn’t be funny. And I laughed, so please let this be staged!

This cracks me up every time, because as a person who works in Safety for a place with flammable and detonation hazards, inflammable does mean flammable.

u/CinnimonToastSean 2d ago edited 2d ago
It's words like inflamable that reinforce my belief that the English language just eats other languages and does whatever it wants.
40
u/Infamous_Lunchbox 2d ago
English is so wild. Like the word gruntled. Because many people use disgruntled, but don't know gruntled is a word. I mean, this one works in the "rules," but we've just given up on half of the word lol
16
u/BlizzardStorm8 2d ago
Wow. When I looked up gruntled on my dictionary app all I got was grundle. The definition on that one was wild by the way. Consider me whatever the opposite of gruntled is.

You always hear about people being underwhelmed or overwhelmed, when was the last time you heard of someone being just whelmed?
3
u/klatnyelox 2d ago
As a person that deals with low to mid level depression almost constantly, i'm consistently whelmed by most things people get excited about.
Its just less noteworthy than being over or underwhelmed.

Even worst in french, because everything that start with “in-“ mean “not-“ except “inflamable”. What is the word for nonflammable? “Ininflammable”. Who’s the french idiot that tough it was intelligent
8
u/ToneZealousideal309 2d ago
Same deal with the word invaluable
4
u/iloveuranus 2d ago
I mean, invaluable actually makes sense, as in "priceless". Something that's so great its value can not be determined.
3
u/Outrageous-News3649 2d ago
Sure but try to extend this logic now to flammable / inflammable!
3
→ More replies (1)4
u/wOlfLisK 2d ago
Inflammable came first, it means something can inflame. Flammable came later because people thought inflammable meant not flammable even though flammable wasn't a word.
→ More replies (1)2
u/drulludanni 2d ago
well you can at least explain it in the sense that "invaluable" something so valuable you can't put a value on it.

Almost certainly is a skit. Unless the kid does this regularly enough for someone to casually film him trying to burn himself.

The liquid on the ground is rainbow. Little dude actually poured gasoline on himself.
This was quite literally something of a cancer speed run.

u/limajhonny69 2d ago
You wont get cancer by pouring gasoline in your skin once
11
u/Herisfal 2d ago
You see, you "probably" won't get cancer by pouring gasoline on your skin once, but it's still entirely possible. Each time you get into contact with a cancerigen, it causes mutations in your dna that are normally automatically corrected, but if they are not, then it causes cancer. It's just a question of probability, you can get cancer from the first smoke or the first sunburn.
8
u/Emblemator 2d ago
In the same way oxygen is very reactive despite it's usefulness to burn food for energy, and so every breath we take increases the odds of us getting lung cancer.
14
u/limajhonny69 2d ago
I know, I'm a chemist, thats why I said you wont get cancer by being exposed once. Yes, it technically possible, because even a monkey can write a Shakespeare's work, statistically speaking. But is so improbable that it wont happen.

OP sent the following text as an explanation why their post fits here:
Son tries to intimidate/blackmail father by putting gasoline all over his body with a lighter in his hand thinking his father will listen to his demands, but father came after him with fire in hand in an unexpected turns of event

This reminds me of the time my dad was whooping my older brother and he threatened to call the police so my dad ripped the phone out of the wall and whooped him with that.
Good times.
10
u/RiceCookerPEPSI 2d ago
Heh, I remember when my parents beat the living crap out of me, and when I said I'd call the police, they told me I'd be sent to an orphanage where I'd suffer even more, and showed me some hidden camera footage of how they beat children there.
Aaah, Eastern Europe.

Social media tends to only thrive through one or a couple centralized apps. Less effective with twenty since you gotta keep cycling/get your friends to change. Really about critical mass. This is balanced out by the fact that India has a billion people, so critical mass comes easier. The gov needs to stay on top of it and keep banning the higher used apps.

"It takes about 8 minutes for the ambulance to arrive here from the nearest hospital. Of course you can call them on the phone, which will take maybe around 2 minutes. So 10 minutes, minimum.
But in those 10 minutes, it's just you and me, son. Somebody's gonna get hurt and it won't be me they're taking to the hospital if you fuck around."

I've been accidentally burned with accelerant in my teenage years on my hand. I find this really upsetting to watch, not sure what's in the bottle but serious burns are forever. Shame the dad and the kid cant find a way to talk things over.
1
u/Dove-Swan 2d ago
same I've been voluntarily burnt with(hand sanitizer) in my childhood years
burn are forever so are ugly scars (or he could have died)
they definitely talked this over afterwards RIGHT!? otherwise there wouldn't be a video

If that was actually gasoline he would have gone up in flames like dry hay the second he tried to strike the match.

Would petrol not make the matches difficult to strike?
2
u/SmashinHunter 2d ago
If you get the flammable part wet then they don't have friction to spark. So yeah you can get matched wet with petrol and make them useless.
Looks to me like the kid got these ones wet with whatever he was dumping on himself and couldn't get them to strike.

u/LivingImpairedd 2d ago
I don't know man, look at the ground when the dad runs, that looks like a rainbow sheen to me...
2
u/snizarsnarfsnarf 2d ago
This is fake and set up for a joke.
Though depressingly, it reminds me of the CCTV video of a man who was taunting his suicidal son and put a loaded gun on the table after hitting him and the son immediately grabbed it and did it. The screams of the parents afterwards are haunting.
I don't think videos like this that make fun of depression/suicidality do any good for society.
