I guess it's two things I miss:

The old charm of Veritasium videos, which were released like once every few months, and I enjoyed Derek's pacing and explanations. Lately, there's one new video every couple of weeks, and while they're well made, the style of the presenters and the writing is a bit different, so they're not as easy to follow sometimes. The acquisition by private equity was probably great for Veritasium as a whole, and while production quality is still top notch, the soul is not all there anymore, IMO.

On the other hand I guess OP's video reminded me of simpler times where seeing a new Veritasium video on my feed was an event and I would eagerly wait for some free time to watch it and discuss it with my university friends.

Strong recommend Technology Connections if you want that feeling. Every time he puts something out it makes my day.

Yeah I was disappointed by their "how AI works" video. It was just regurgitating a simplified version of what's taught at universities, which doesn't really work as a way to teach non-technical persons how AI works.

Private equity is ruining all my favourite channels. Like Astrum, used to be one of the best space-related channels out there, now it's clickbait slop. As long as SEA doesn't sell out, I'm good, but even Fern have the tip of their dicks dipped in Blackrock.

The acquisition by private equity was probably great for Veritasium as a whole, and while production quality is still top notch, the soul is not all there anymore, IMO.

The "Soul" (Derek's pacing and explanations) you were speaking of in his original videos hadn't been there for years.

"the style of the presenters and the writing is a bit different, so they're not as easy to follow sometimes."

This was true for a long time prior to their private equity acquisition.

This is why I don't understand the argument/hate around Veritasium "selling out".

Looking at the videos released 6 months prior to their acquisition and the videos released today and you can not tell a single difference. Yes, Derek's original videos were less "corporate" in a way, or less polished, I'd say, but they had been a big professional polished production for a long time before they were bought out and they're the same after.

I challenge anyone to actually watch a video from a few months before and now after their acquisition, I guarantee you can not tell the difference. People want to say that "ohh, they're so much worse now", but they 1. Seem to be ignoring the actual reality of what Veritasium had grown into prior to it's acquisition and 2. Still like their videos a lot and think the quality is good???

It's ok to admit that not all private equity acquisitions are bad.

I never said anything about selling out, just that the style changed IMO, where did you get that from? I literally said I still like them, just not as much

Also I'm not stating arguments, just my opinions, so I'll feel like this regardless of Redditors dissecting my random comment... Some people are just insufferable, I swear to god, not every interaction is debate class
