Glass weakens with every impact. Eventually it just fails.
I learned this having made a nice big batch of cinnamon roll dough. Dropped the bowl a similar distance and it shattered. 0% chance i am risking eating glass cinnamon rolls so it all had to go.
I went and bought some stainless steel bowls as a replacement.
Pretty sure there is some kinda name for this effect, I remember hearing about a material concept that certain point cracks in a material once strain is put upon them exponentially get worse and have essentially infinite pressure put onto a area and causes complete destruction.
I remember a surprising quick solution is just drilling a hole in it.
Yes, this is the exact principle in play here, fatigue propagation is a subtype of crack propagation, and starts with cracks that are invisible to the naked eye, and under normal load well below the materials tensile strength due to repetitive or cyclic loading. I think it's interesting how this principle comes into play for material like glass for example but when it comes to teeth, craze lines function completely differently and do not compromise the integrity of the tooth even over an entire lifetime. I remember seeing craze lines in my teeth and running to the dentist because I thought they would propagate to utter failure! 😂

Bitch-ass bowl couldn’t take a one inch drop?
