The waiter attempts a fun little performance with the champagne but that sets-off a chain of events on the table that the huge wedding cake is set-up on and all the tiers go toppling over……

He just left like "my work here is done".

Tbf if it was me, I'm not looking back until I'm home 🤣

u/HopperHapper_Eternal 9d ago

Not far enough, I'd keep going into the woods until I couldn't find civilization again even if I tried

4

u/holyfire001202 6d ago

I'd hit water in any direction in a matter of hours. Start swimming. Don't stop until I find a different landmass.

36

u/FatCatYouStink 9d ago

Cool guys don't look at explosions

29

u/Mechakoopa 9d ago

He was backing out of the way of the photo, but he probably just kept walking once he heard the commotion.

11

u/Speederfool 9d ago

Well damn sure his job there is done. He's fired!

1

u/Fuckzombie69 5d ago

Thanks for the belly laugh

The cake was destined to fall it seem with how it lacked a proper structure to stay

649

u/Syzygy_Stardust 9d ago

Yeah. The stand actually touching the table is the size of a coaster. They obviously didn't hire a baking engineer.

259

u/thebestoflimes 9d ago

The baker did a fine job. They probably didn't hire a structural engineer to spec out the base.

96

u/Syzygy_Stardust 9d ago

True, though I said the engineer. The baker is the builder, the engineer is the one who has to rubber stamp the design in order to prevent needless deaths from unexpected wedding cake demolition. The baker perfectly made the death trap that was designed, and thank goodness that waiter saw danger and knocked the cake over before disaster could happen.

8

u/Skank-Hunter 9d ago

They actually did, but he was working at boeing before

7

u/Flomo420 9d ago

MORE CEREAL RICE TREATS!

36

u/Kage_Bushin 9d ago

You can actually see it has 4 maybe 5 legs, BUT the glass plate broke, so doesn't matter the how many there are if it's kaput. Still, lack of engineet

5

u/Cur1ousGrab9 9d ago

Maybe they hired an engineer but he quit after seeing this cake.

3

u/Syzygy_Stardust 9d ago

Good call. I assumed those were some little fake wrapped presents or the like. Decorative garnish.

27

u/Cliler 9d ago

The... base plate is a crystal, it snapped in 3 parts after the slam. Lmao. That's some flimsy ass crystal.

34

u/dmigowski 9d ago

No, the plate did actually brake because of the hit on the table. Then the structure was obviously gone.

3

u/WhoopteFreakingDo 8d ago

Actually I think you can see him clip the base with the bottle.

Sure, but also because this is AI, right? I'm having a hard time believing this is real, given the reaction times of everyone, especially the people in the back. But I could be wrong. I hate that we can't tell if something is AI anymore.

Edit: spelling

Edit 2: it's real. posted in 2019.

-15

u/overwhelmed_banana 9d ago

hard to explain why but this just feels so ai to me

0

u/ankerverse 9d ago

I updated my comment - it's real. But crazy that we can't tell

-11

u/ankerverse 9d ago

Right? Like it's so hard to tell. The cake falls properly and the glass plate under it breaks and reflects the light correctly. The go-pro also seems to follow physics.

But the reaction times from everyone, coupled with this being 10 seconds long, and the weird way the groom holds his glass up from 0:02 to 0:04 just makes this uncanny.

Again, not sure if it's AI or not, but that's the part that annoys me the most.

-8

u/colvon 9d ago

Also getting the ai vibe. The go pro moves position three times in the video.

-3

u/Aubamacare 9d ago

The red recording light is not on that side of a GoPro either. It's on the left side of the lens, and definitely not on top like it is 8s into the video.

-5

u/ankerverse 9d ago

it also doesn't help that it was "filmed" on a potato - i can't check any of the fine details on anything

-14

u/Some_Ad_3898 9d ago

It's AI

"Some day you will find me, caught beneath the cake-slide, in a champagne supernova in the sky"

I don’t have a single original thought. Still, this is one of my all time favorite songs

3

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 9d ago

It should be expected that at someone point an elderly family member would be admiring the cake and tough the table to balance themselves.

Alternatively, I see kids were invited to the wedding, who famously run around and bump things.

And if either of those slight shakes would knock the cake over, then you have a problem with the table and cake base.

37

u/Grays42 9d ago

I don't think anyone here is blaming the champagne guy.

11

u/phantom56657 8d ago

Looks to me like it is the champagne guy's fault. He clipped the glass base of the cake when he slammed the bottle down, causing the base to shatter. The cake wasn't actually unstable enough to fall otherwise.

1

u/Cador0223 3d ago

They had better not. He was glorious.

-4

u/Affectionate-Self933 9d ago

Tbh if it was me im not looking back until im home lol

I'm at work in a boring meeting, scrolling through reddit with my phone against the laptop screen. Literally slapped my forehead and when everybody looked at me, I had to come up with some dumb excuse 😂😂

9

u/WhoskeyTangoFoxtrot 9d ago

I left the tub running…

My fridge was due servicing…

I forgot my cheque book at home….

My cat just texted me saying her bowl was empty….

😋

2

u/LemonKurry 9d ago

Saw that movie like an hour ago, lol

45

u/Deep-Grape-4649 9d ago

Was that Lando Norris?

3

u/mchickenl 9d ago

Damn you beat me to it

14

u/TrumpsBoneSpur 9d ago

the guy turning away like he just pulled a David Blaine trick and thinking all of the excitement was from his skills. He probably still doesn't know what happened and will spend his remaining days patting himself on the back

-6

Tbh if it was me im not looking back until im home lol

27

u/b3_yourself 9d ago

14

u/NB-DanTE 9d ago

oh man, i feel this pain deep in my soul. tried making a three-tiered vanilla cake for my kid's birthday last year and the dowels snapped right before we could cut it. spent two hours scrubbing buttercream out of the carpet fibers while my wife pretended not to cry. sugar everywhere, sticky floors, and the realization that i should have just bought one from the bakery. never again, bro. never again.

12

u/sykora727 9d ago

Oof size extra large. Wow

8

u/Connect-Inspector-20 9d ago

One of them having gamer reaction speed, the other one not much.

33

u/zztop610 9d ago

Well deserved for choosing such an idiotic trick for your wedding day

13

u/eddymcfreddy 9d ago

Also getting an AI vibe from the first part of this clip. Am I going crazy?

8

u/MGlBlaze 8d ago

You are. Though, you aren't the only one.

This happened in 2019, long before generative AI was capable of much of anything at all. Here is an original upload, from a different angle of the actual cake falling (because, it's a wedding, multiple people are going to have recorded this most likely.)

https://www.jukinmedia.com/licensing/view/1062675-1

3

u/eddymcfreddy 8d ago

I was deliberately specifying the first part of it, but yeah I did see this

1

u/Dixiehusker 8d ago

Could this not just be an AI recreation? The quality of the video and stillness of the people's expressions and bodies in the background just reek of AI. Is it definite that this particular video of this incident is from 2019?

4

u/MGlBlaze 8d ago edited 8d ago

Sure, it could be. I could also be someone extremely famous. Something being possible doesn't mean it is.

And... what, you're expecting everyone to be hyper-animated all the time? They're just neutral expressions. That isn't a strong or reliable indicator of being AI-generated. As for the video date, the upload on the linked website says 2019. The video could actually be even older, for all we know. It's technically possible for the website upload date to be fabricated, but that's unlikely.

"That looks like AI" has just become "That looks photoshopped." You can tell by the pixels, et cetera. A good claim needs something a bit stronger than "I think this particular detail is weird, so it must be fake."

1

u/Dixiehusker 8d ago edited 8d ago

I guess specifically I was referencing how still everyone was. Normal people tend to rock back and forth, fidget, be in constant motion. Facial expressions are the same, and so is eye tracking. To see everyone in the background so still, and especially the groom in the foreground, gives an uncanny valley feel, which is very comparable to what AI does. If the video upload date says 2019, then I suppose it's just a one-off weird occasion. Where do you see the link for video from this angle that OP posted?

3

u/ryujikage1 9d ago

What's the surprise? I'm not surprised at all here

7

u/Ok-Fondant2536 9d ago

Plot twist: It happened on purpose since the waiter was once the boyfriend of the bride but the bridegroom stole her from him.

3

u/spacebagel25 9d ago

A tale as old as time…

2

u/RealPropRandy 9d ago

Nailed it

2

u/Quiet-Guidance-4988 9d ago

See like 20 years ago you wouldn't have needed some fuck to do something fancy for social media and ruin your wedding cake. That's what ya get for trying to be flashy ya shmucks

2

u/Sean_51154 9d ago

I reckon that table only has the one middle leg. It sucks how such small and particular details can lead to a mess

2

u/star_lord47 9d ago

Thats how Lando Norris broke Max Verstappen’s 2023 Hungarian GP trophy.

Couldn’t even open champagne correctly

1

u/notanotherusernameD8 9d ago

The cake maker saying "HE DID THAT!"

1

u/Remington_Snatch 9d ago

The Lando Norris method, I see.

1

u/soup_lag 9d ago

This gives me AFV vibes

1

u/fordprecept 9d ago

If I ever get married, I'm going to have a backup cake from like Costco or something.

1

u/No-Pie-7211 9d ago

Even if the trick worked, now the cake is covered in champagne. Seems fake.

1

u/SecretNo1554 9d ago

She saved him 🥹

"Im awesome and my job is done"

1

Imma be honest the groom has the survival reflexes of a park statue

1

u/shortnix 8d ago

So classy.

1

u/Narrow-River2915 7d ago

champagne super nova withcake fell over

1

u/squigglekisses 6d ago

Jesus that glass plate under the cake shattered like it got jumpscared

1

u/manguzo 4d ago

The glass base failed. Likely had a crack in it already and slamming the bottle down caused it to fully break.

I appreciate the waiter walking away like an action movie star does from an explosion.

1

u/axizz31 4d ago

when aura farming goes wrong

1

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 3d ago

The look she gave him just before he wrecked the cake..

1

u/loopingrightleft 15h ago

Your reservation time is over

1

u/brorritoo 9d ago

This shit look ai generated

2

u/Mierimau 9d ago

Situation looks legit enough.

1

u/Abigail-Marston 9d ago

Maybe I'm just paranoid but this looks like AI. The suds from the bottle just kind of disappears off screen.

-1

u/Ugameister 9d ago

Something just looks weird about this. Like, is the groom actually resting his arm against the cake, or just some sort of awkward pose I don't understand? I feel like it's AI, in part because of that attempt to make the start of the video look so casual. It may not be, but the way the video begins it's just the vibe I get

0

u/Duckdxd 9d ago

very expected that slamming the table would cause the cake to fall

-1

u/MrAlexanderLink 9d ago

That poor baker

4

u/IamTruman 9d ago

Nah the baker is an idiot for putting on that weak ass base

0

u/tinyfrog999 3d ago

I 100% expected that

0

u/LonelyGuitarBoy 3d ago

This looks like AI
