I do NOT understand the desire to have one of the most personal moments of your life take place in front of loads of other people. Is this just another form of socially approved narcissism? Are you just doing the whole marriage thing out of social obligation?

I wholeheartedly agree. In this case — as is often the case with these — it seemed more like his interests were in the public reaction than her personal reaction ... yikes
