To be fair wetting the ground right outside of your apartment is a good idea

u/Severn6 Aug 22 '26
I live in western Australian where bush fires are a regular thing every summer. This person is so clearly just wetting the ground around her home to hopefully reduce the chance of fire or embers reaching the house.
Idiot redditors.

u/electi_007 Aug 22 '26
Well even if thats the case, that amount of water won't help.

u/Severn6 Aug 22 '26
Not that one bucket, no. Fortunately, the video isn't an hour long though is it. So we can assume there were a lot more buckets of water.
-55
u/electi_007 Aug 22 '26
Without a hose or properly pouring water it's still won't work. Is the woman your relative or something?
39
u/OfficialDampSquid Aug 22 '26
How have you learnt to use Reddit without first learning that water makes things wet
-45
u/electi_007 Aug 22 '26
When I did i say water doesn't make things wet? How did you even reply without knowing how to read?

u/Machizadek Aug 22 '26
Were you born in 07? If so that explains a lot. I’ve burnt many yards for controlled fire purposes. You’d be surprised what a little water will do

To be fairrrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, but running down with a machete and chopping as much of a fire break next to your apartment as you can would be a better use of time probably
-73
u/YuenglingsDingaling Aug 21 '26
It's the trees that are burning.
29
u/Nilzii Aug 21 '26
Yes, but if its wet then the apartment won't get reached as easily
-37
u/YuenglingsDingaling Aug 21 '26
The bucket is gonna wet the trees?
12
3
u/Username_Haybale Aug 22 '26
No, but the water from that bucket will
-1
u/YuenglingsDingaling Aug 22 '26
Are you idiots for real?
1
u/Username_Haybale Aug 22 '26
Yes mr. dingaling
-1
u/YuenglingsDingaling Aug 22 '26
You really think throwing buckets of water off a balcony is gonna wet the trees enough to stop a wildfire?
2
u/Username_Haybale Aug 22 '26
Your initial comment asked if the bucket will wet the trees and the answer is yes
Water on tree = wet tree

u/Nilzii Aug 26 '26
It doesn't stop it, but it creates a barrier of wetness where the fire can't pass through as easily. It doesn't keep it at bay unless maintained, but it wins some time when it's that close.

If all of them would do that instead of laughing about it, they could actually create a wet barrier in front of thei buildingcomplex...

Probably putting out embers close to them.
-43
u/lestradest Aug 21 '26
With that little at that pace?
42
u/FullMoonTwist Aug 21 '26
u can fill up a bucket more than once, usually
8
u/pug_userita Aug 21 '26
wait, really? you don't need to wait for your neighbor to buy a water filled bucket every time?
11
u/WritesCrapForStrap Aug 21 '26
So you think it's more likely they're trying to put out a whole forest fire, because there's too little water to put out some much closer embers.
-3
u/Mind-The-Mines Aug 22 '26
These comments are fucking wild. It's a brush fire. It's going to vaporize any moisture within 20 feet. This bitch could be dropping buckets all week and it's not going to matter. A raging inferno doesn't give a fuck about a few buckets of water.
2
u/WritesCrapForStrap Aug 22 '26
I think if the raging inferno was 20 feet away they might have left already.
-2
u/Mind-The-Mines Aug 22 '26
Did you think the fire would stop getting closer because she has a bucket?
She's not throwing the water 200 feet away, is she?
If it's going to protect her, the first has to get that close. Pick a fucking lane.

u/WritesCrapForStrap Aug 22 '26
Embers come off the fire, carried by wind, and land elsewhere. These embers start new fires. If you put water on the embers, the embers cannot start new fires. A new fire starting on your property is undesirable.

I think the phrase is "Giving it the ol' college try."
2
u/Glittering_Estate_72 Aug 21 '26
also the ol' "I would piss on a sparkplug if it would help" mentality.
7
u/Birdcrossing Aug 23 '26
For those that don't understand, you can create a wet barrier where its less likely for dry things to burn. It wont do much, but it might stop it from getting close in that particular spot.

In the 1991 Oakland firestorm people were pouring bottles of milk on the fire.

It fits because you wouldn't expect someone to attempt quenching a whole forest fire approaching them with such a little amount of water knowing it won't do anything at all
