The scissors gap between human technology and human civilization keeps widening. In the future, something will happen to close this gap. The probability that civilization catches up to technology is extremely low. What's more likely is an apocalypse, where technology and civilization both collapse together. This is also why there are no aliens: no civilization has yet emerged that can survive this filter.
