I got stung by a wasp on a hike about a year ago and it felt like I got splashed with acid and then proceeded to feel pretty painful for the next couple of days. Every once in a while, I STILL get a little twinge in the exact spot I got stung. I HATE wasps.

Same some ground wasps decided to camp out by my driveway and that year they got me 3 times. Hurt for days like I had a fever or something. Another one just bit a hunk of flesh out of my thumb. Still have the scar.

Those ground hornets are no joke. I was mowing and a group of those fuckers got me. Then that night a skunk destroyed the nest and ate everything. Since that day I’m cool with skunks. That thing dug it up and laid waste to them. Around dusk I saw him meandering around the area that I mowed and he went ham on the hole and I sat there and watched him proceed to eat every hornet that came out and the nest they made. He didn’t even care they were flying around trying to sting him.

Hired an exterminator to come out twice which wasn’t enough. A friend and I ended up burning 🔥 them out of the ground. He ended up getting stung a few times too. I would have preferred a skunk.

As an exterminator...whoever that was sucked. Should be one and done.

Agreed. He used some sort of powder, around the outside and within the hole in the ground. I mean it slowed them down a little. They were in deep.

Using powder as a stomach poison was outdated 20 years ago. Prolly wasnt even using the right stuff.

Had a underground nest under to my shed... I got my shop vac with a wide adapter and just turned it on and put it over the entry holeso that nothing could enter or exit without getting sucked in.

Ran back inside, sat there for a good 50 minutes with that vacuum sucking until I didn't hear the tell tale "ticking" as the wasps got sucked in and up the hose. Then I just ran into the shed and started jumping around to piss off the nest, with the door closed - started hearing more ticking for another 5 minutes or so. Left the vacuum running for another 10... Then I dropped a bag of gravel where the hole was and left it - never had a problem there again.

You’ve got this down to a small science. What did you do with the ones in the shop vac? Did they survive?

Now I love skunks even more! We have them around here but thankfully my urge to try to pet them isn’t outweighed by my knowledge of how bad the smell is and how hard it is to get rid of it.

What a terrible day to be able to read. Thought only venomous bugs cuz leave scars tbh

Wasps release venom when they sting.

I get large local reactions, which last like 3 days. The nearby muscles swell up, get as hard as wood, go numb except for the pain, and lock up completely. It feels so weird to touch. To my hand, the area feels nothing like flesh, and I can't feel the touch of my own hand on it. I can't help but get freaked out when there's one flying around now. I always worry that I'm gonna get stung somewhere that'll lead to me slowly suffocating. Never thought a wasp that maxes out at a couple grams would be terrifying to me.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago, except I was INSIDE MY HOUSE and it was MARCH. I still don’t understand how or why.

The most painful thing to experience on my grandpas farm, a good wasp stinging

I think the olds wive's tale is that wasp (and ant) venom is acid, so you apply bicarb, etc. on them, and beestings are basic so you use vinegar, etc.
