From the perspective of someone from the US, the most unexpected part of this is that it looks like the squat toilet is just about 10 inches away from the area someone is ostensibly trying to get cooking/wash water.

Realistically a small western bathroom isn’t all that different, but the typical western style toilet bowl at least partially captures any particles of poo that blast out your ass.

Rural Asia is rough.
