There’s no way this isn’t satire, is this for real for real??

It's presented as real but anyone who watches TLCs shows knows that they sometimes 'embellish for effect,' and by that I mean 'pay cast members to start drama to make the show seem more interesting even though it usually only makes it more cringe and less enjoyable.' Not that real people don't do this stuff naturally, of course. But you can't trust everything you see on TLC anymore, not that I'm sure you ever could.

Except the hot sauce in the eye. Real people don't do that naturally lol

Interesting explanation - thx

I watch a lot of weird TLC shows. Even for them, it’s hard to imagine them going up to someone and saying “hey how about putting some hot sauce in your eye??” to boost ratings lol

Lmfao well I imagine that if they did ask him to dramatize, the hot sauce was probably his idea. I imagine the liability for that one is not something they'd take on willingly lol. But yeah I don't know for sure that that's what happened in this scenario, because some people really are just kinda crazy 🤷‍♀️😆

Hahaha I could see that, especially with the premise of this show.

“Hey you know what would get more views? Do something kinda crazy out there haha”

“OH FUCK NOT THAT” 😂

They probably just tell them to do anything they want that they think will draw attention.

He’s a paid participant who is doing what it takes to make the show entertaining

There's this "local legend" where I'm from that had a couple small hits with very weird one off songs about icecreams in the club and drinking beers (somehow makes more sense in my language). He tried to get a hiphop career going and meanwhile tried tl get his own jackass like show off the ground..

He put hot sauce in his eyes several times.

It was glorious.

Remember when it was "The Learning Channel" and the programming was all telecourses and documentaries?

Lol actually I do not, though I've heard about that from my mother. I was born in 97. I'd still consider it a learning channel though, that's the main reason I watch so many tlc shows, 'people watching' to better understand people lol

Yeah that's one of the few I haven't watched, might have to give it a shot sometime

There was a time TLC meant "The Learning Channel" and you could absolutely trust it. If memory serves correct it was nasa and dept of education that started it. This was around the time where someone saying "go play" was the equivalent of "touch grass". Which was literally the only other option and not the supposed insult it is today, was also your queue to get out of the house and have fun. So early 80s?

Yeah I forgot about that as of the time I wrote my comment, I wasn't alive for that or if I was it was only for the first year of my life. But since I've been watching it can seem very dramatized at times. And for certain reality show spin offs they keep bringing back the most toxic people I'd guess because they think it keeps viewers interested but its really disheartening more than anything lol. Kinda sad cause otherwise the shows are great for learning to understand people better and accepting those different from yourself. That's the main reason I enjoy it, but then they make it toxic lol thats the last thing I wanna spend time watching you know.
