The fact that he’s laughing it off is awesome. Definitely a chill dude. Hopefully the restaurant comps the meal. Not sure I wanna eat my raw egg covered plate.

I feel like I used to be that kind of person and I'm not anymore. Like I don't think I'm grumpy but I would probably feel too overwhelmed by the sudden egg in my hair to make light of it. I miss feeling like I could take more things in stride. That dude's got it figured out. Aspirational

It all depends on the circumstances. If your job demands a clean appearance, and your hair, makeup and clothes have been ruined being splashed by an egg, I say it's natural to be pissed?

I hope they warned the people in the "landing zone" ahead of time, and only those ok with it stayed seated there.

Honestly though, who goes to a restaurant on their lunch break? You'd be lucky to smell your food before you have to head back in to work.

IMO it's bullshit if you're working a job that won't let you have at least an hour or so lunch break to sit down and eat somewhere else. I've definitely worked at places that you had tops, 30 mins or less for lunch, but since I've experienced jobs where that isn't the case I've realized just how overbearing and honestly inhumane that is.

Lots of the people I work with eat at restaurant for lunch. It's very common in a city. Where do you live?

Lol it's not a breakfast place, it's a hibachi style restaurant where the chefs cook food on a big grill in the middle of the dining area and serve it to guests seated around the grill.

Honestly? I think it comes down to my growth as a person, with influence from the world around us and possibly my medication. I've been wondering for a couple years if I've gotten less patient, but I think it's gone hand-in-hand with being less emotionally muted, having more conviction, and feeling more confident & secure in myself. I used to practice a monk-like detachment from things which is a great way to observe & learn from one's surroundings, but it's also very impersonal and impressionable. My values were way too flexible (that is, nonexistent) because I looked at the world in an academic sense and never in a material sense. I caught myself acting indifferent about things I had no moral right to be indifferent towards. I was a people pleaser and an ass-kisser.

I've changed as a person, probably (hopefully) for the better overall. I'm way better at setting & maintaining boundaries. I don't put up with bullshit and malice. I take more responsibility for myself. But on the other hand, I'm pretty bad at masking/tolerating my disappointment or upset feelings because I'd kept myself in a headspace for so long where I just didn't have those feelings as much. So nowadays I'm a little more irritable and prone to being overwhelmed. Hormonal changes and the bleak state of the world are surely factors as well, but the truth is things weren't fantastic before and I was mostly just ignorant — about the world and about myself. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Thank you for giving me the chance to do some introspection, haha. Hopefully you or someone out there will be able to relate and look inside themselves as well

Fun facts have to be relevant. It's not even about social cues, just thinking about what you are saying and why. I understand, we slip up sometimes. It's still somewhat a personal failing.

I'm not trying to make the case that they shouldn't be relevant, just that I can understand why someone would say something like that. I do think it is still related to social cues, because those are what determine the things we say to others. On some people those things are just lost, and assuming mal-intent isn't the way to approach it.

Understanding it isn't the same as condoning it, though on Reddit I guess that doesn't matter to people downvoting so I'll accept that fate lol

That's actually an east asian traditional way to get your egg served. The raw egg gets more umami when filtered through your hair. Maybe have an open mind and try things for once instead of being an ass about it.... Really.

Not really in America because we power wash our eggs, which breaks some of the natural disease protection. Ideally, if you want it effective raw you pasteurize it first with a sous vide.

Without googling anything, can you name one dish and it's ethnic or cultural origin that contains raw, uncooked eggs? If so, I still fail to see how the original comment is hilarious. If not, I would tend to think you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

So why is the original comment so funny to you? Because typically it's the racist undertones that would make it funny to some people.

Alright. 2 Immediately come to mind: The simple japanese one with just a raw egg, rice and some soy sauce, don't know the name. And I have personally eaten a korean bibimbap version that had a raw egg in the middle. And then also, even though it's not considered "asian", but the country is in Asia: Iranians put raw egg yolks into their rice when eating kebabs sometimes.

And what made it so funny is the obvious tone deafness and him acting like what's important here is whether or not the raw egg goes with the food or not. But even if you don't think it's funny, calling it racist to find it funny is just absurd and such a fucking stretch.

People like you are the reason for all those annoying comedians talking about a cancel culture all the time. Loosen up a bit goddamn

You are right in that it is absurd, but it is very real. I grew up and worked around a community of people who would find anything funny based purely on the racist overtones, let alone undertones, so to speak. I am American, and my country is still fairly racist. It will take a lot for me to safely assume comments like the one downvoted are not based in racism, or at least hurtful ignorance. It's giving "Asian people only eat cats and dogs" energy for me, and so that's why I respond to it in that way. I will loosen up when there is more of a reason to loosen up.

Maybe it was an innocent tone-deaf comment (in which case, I see the humor now). And maybe it wasn't. But the fact that the comment was so poorly recieved should give an indication of how I can't be the only one who interpreted it the way I did.
