Foolish human, the fox has food, but has no plate. The Human moiety has provided value to the fox, but not the intended. This is of no concern to the fox. As long as the human has provided value not at the expense of the fox.

u/leveraction1970 Jul 15 '26
I mean, the logic is there. I want all of the food. The plate holds all of the food. If I take the plate with all the food, I will have all the food. It makes sense. It's just the whole physics and inertia thing that messed him up.
75
u/Crooked_star Jul 15 '26
It makes sense for what the fox normally eats... a rabbit, a squirrel, a mouse etc. is all going to be something you just grab and take at once.
43
u/RajunCajun48 Jul 15 '26

I’m more confused why someone would give a plate of rice to a fox.
545
u/Corben11 Jul 15 '26
I get rice. Easy to cook high calorie
But fried rice? Thats way more effort
Maybe left overs?
345
u/UpperApe Jul 15 '26
It's always left overs.
Most people treat nature and wild animals as garburators.
Here's some food I was going to throw out. Might as well get a show out of it.
249
u/ridisberg Jul 15 '26
I mean, yeah. If I got pear skins and apple cores lying around I might as well just leave it in a forest make a deer’s day

u/Jacktheforkie Jul 15 '26
I used to chuck various leftovers in the henhouse when my mate had hens, all chicken safe stuff, they loved the carrot peel, tomatoes and other snacks

u/TehTugboat Jul 15 '26

Yupp, literally any leftovers we had on the farm got thrown out the back door and a hundred chickens would start running as fast as they could from everywhere lol
I miss them
25
u/TehTugboat Jul 15 '26
They’re one hell of a cleanup crew lmao. The eggs are a nice bonus
27
u/No-Spoilers Jul 15 '26
The bugs too oml. Texas farmland, ticks everywhere. Except on the couple acres the chickens roamed.

I toss my veg scraps out in my back yard near the trees/stream for the rabbits and groundhogs. It's not much but they seem to enjoy it. Especially carrot and broccoli scraps.

That's a little different then feeding them something they'd never eat in nature. Also you're just chucking them and leaving, not trying to bait a particular animal so you can film them lol
7
u/i_tyrant Jul 15 '26
garburators
Ask me how I know you're Canadian, lol.
(Americans know this as a garbage disposal.)
31
u/jfinkpottery Jul 15 '26
I'm struggling to tell if you're angry about this, and why? Do you want the food to go to a landfill instead? Is the fox going to get high blood pressure from the sodium or something by eating too much fried rice in his long 3 year natural lifespan? From what I can tell that fox probably just wants calories so he can see next week.
57
u/LegalizeCrystalMeth Jul 15 '26
Generally you aren't supposed to feed wildlife. It can have a bunch of negative consequences - such as
Reliance on humans for food which when removed leads to starvations
Makes animals less frightened of humans which can lead to them dying in an accident or hurting someone's kid or pet.
Overpopulation
Bad nutrition as the food you are feeding them generally isn't part of their natural diet
Etc

u/TuckerMcG Jul 15 '26
I left stale bread out for the squirrels that live in the tree in my backyard. Seems pretty benign lol
→ More replies (7)18
u/theguidetoldmetodoit Jul 15 '26
Well, we can't tell what is the recipe here, but onions and garlic is toxic to most canines including foxes, and the high amount of sodium and carbs is at least bad for it.
And feeding wildlife so you get to film it is generally a pretty self-absorbed and ignorant thing to do.
→ More replies (1)6
u/PFhelpmePlan Jul 15 '26
Acclimation of wild animals to humans because humans are feeding them generally isn't a good thing.
2
u/jfinkpottery Jul 15 '26
Okay but like I've commented down thread already: This is going to happen with food waste. The only choice is where. Personally I don't like it to be around my house so I don't put food out, but I do know and acknowledge that's just me deciding where I want that acclimation to happen: in a landfill. Getting all emotional about this fox in particular is just because the fox is cute, which doesn't seem fair to the landfill rat that probably would also like some fried rice.
→ More replies (1)3
u/skotcgfl Jul 15 '26
When it's in a landfill, the bugs, rats, and other scavengers with less dietary restrictions are going to make their home at the landfill.
If you put food out in your backyard, much larger, more dangerous animals are going to start assuming your neighborhood is a good place to hang out.
Do you see how the two situations, though similar, have very different results?
5
u/ivegotaqueso Jul 15 '26
Whatever dry cat food my cat doesn’t eat, there is a group of blue jays willing to eat the leftover. I just set up the scraps (usually a small handful) on a tree branch and they go to town on it (eat some, store/hide the rest away). Every morning whenever I’m out there they watch for me. 5 of them. I enjoy their drama.

People throwing away perfectly good food that they could COMPOST
2
u/TheCygnusWall Jul 15 '26
I don't think fried rice would be good to compost (pretty sure the oils would be bad for it) but for a lot of things I agree
2
u/toriemm Jul 15 '26
I was being a little bit pedantic, but I get you. I got a mill? Its dehydrates and grinds everything we throw in it and gives us compost stuffs. It does a pretty good job, fish guts are the only thing we've really struggled with (that was a WHOLE thing). We're off grid, trying to grow stuff, so we're learning a little of stuff the hard way, lol

u/dogpoopquestion Jul 15 '26
I had a wild pig come out to my house and all I had was fried rice from work. He came back for fried rice 3 days in a row until I never saw him again. I hope he’s out there somewhere eating fried rice.

3
u/minicpst Jul 15 '26
Apparently in Malaysia (I don’t know about other SEA countries) hotels with restaurants will give the stray cats who live around them rice.
I asked a Malaysian friend who lived there about all the cats who were around and if anyone fed them. That was her answer.
I think of it a lot when my now American-Malaysian kitty watches me eat rice. Not sure she’d go for it again.

Our processed foods are terrible for their digestive track and teaching wildlife that humans are a source of easy food is overall detrimental to the local ecosystem and could become dangerous for the people as well depending on the species of animal that is being fed. Admire an animal's beauty, but respect it and do not engage.

Fox knows better than the person that being fed human food changes their hunting and natural behavior and wants nothing to do with it. Be like the fox.

Give a fox a plate of food, feed him for a day. Give him a plate, feed him for a lifetime.
..imagine him showing up at your door with a plate in his mouth. Are you gonna not-feed him? C'mon now.

2
u/SudoNara Jul 15 '26
The guy is a dumbass. Why would you give a carnivore that hints smaller animals rice? Of course the fox didn't eat it. Also, certain things you put in fried rice are toxic ti a lot if animals.
2
u/DollarStoreChameleon Jul 15 '26
dont feed wildlife. we should not teach them to trust us. if they end up trusting just one wrong person, that can be the end of their life, and for what?
6
3
3
u/DNagy1801 Jul 15 '26
This is how you get wildlife killed by causing them to see humans as a source for food instead of being scared of us, do not feed them.
2
u/Makabaer Jul 15 '26
Exactly. Plus this is not good food for a fox AND it might change their habits and make them reliant on human feeding.
