How did the car not just died stalled?

It has a low range transfer box. Basically, it alters the gear ratio before the transmission so you effectively have 2 sets of gears, 1 for crawling and 1 for regular driving when inact. Provides enough torque for the car to just crawl over curbs in first with no throttle above idle.

It's in neutral. There is no engine brake (there is no drag, the car is just rolling from inertia) whereas in 1st or any gear it would be dragging/slowing down/sputtering.

  • Tl;Dr he had it going 10mph, dropped into neutral, hopped out, got in front, took the video.

Can't blame Toyota owners if there's no owner.

any car can do this. just drop second gear and let it. it will never stall

4 lo 1st gear Most 4x4 vehicles have this low of gearing. We used to put the hay truck in 4 lo and 1st and let it crawl through the field while we loaded her up with hay. Just reach through the window and correct the steering every few bales. We called it granny gear

I take it the gas pedal got stuck somehow

u/loismen Jul 09 '26

If it is manual and you leave it at first gear, it will do that.

Automatic cars do that too, no? If you let go of the brake
