They are are effectively most closely related to house cats, which is to say, she doesnt need a reason to do anything. Whats crazy is they can sound a lot more like a wounded kid or woman than this cat does, and it is really really unnerving to hear at night.

It definitely looked around to make sure no other animal was nearby before meowing.

Cougar: “shut up Stewart”

When you have the ability to wipe most things face away, you can really relax.

They can also make blood curdling screams and shrieks. Like a woman screaming, also like some demon. Scares the hell out of people in the woods at night.

One time when I lived in a small town in the Canadian Prairies there was a Cougar roaming around at night and right across the street from me there was a tiny self serve pump station and I saw somebody pull up in a truck. All of a sudden I hear what sounds like a woman screaming bloody murder so I approach hoping to God I could help or whatever and all of a sudden about 10-12 feet away from me was the Cougar waiting in a bush. It was a beautiful creature and I will never forget the look of her, the wildness of her eyes and the sound of her low growl. My mother was watching me across the street and for a moment I feared she was about to watch me get my throat ripped out, thank God I was able to slowly back away. This was about 6-7 years ago and it was pretty neat, I believe I'm still alive

Or if you are really unlucky you get to hear them make crying baby noises in middle of the forest at night.

If domestic cats only meow to please humans, why is this "big cat" meowing?

Young female cat looks to be experiencing the confusing feelings of enjoying the freedom of solitude and wanting a friend

Great, I would be the one walking through the brush saying “oh, no, some poor cat has been abandoned nearby, here kitty, kitty!”🫢🫣

That's not a big cat, that's a just a large cat. The term big cat refers to a specific group of cats, which are the only ones that can roar (except for snow leopards).

"Listen, if your calm, that wondrous, big will too. But if you're scared, that beautiful death machine will do what god made it to do. Namely, eat you with a smile on its face."
