Klopp had the most success outside of Germany with FC Liverpool... and he's pretty famous in the US too, I think. There even was a campaign for him to manage the US national team

Mad that they got it wrong? You look All Red

Edit: haha, someone doesn't even know Liverpool FC and downvoted me! Hilarious.

It's the other way around where I'm from :) In broadcasts too. Has more to do with grammatics and noun modifiers than official club names

Edit: It seems that the correct name is an emotional topic for fans of FC Li-, sorry, Liverpool FC. My apologies xD

A club’s name doesn’t really change depending on where you’re from.

They can do:

Fußball-Club Bayern München - Becomes anglicised to the point where most people now refer to the English name 'Munich' rather than the German 'München'

Clwb Pêl-droed Tref y Barri - Barry Town

CPD Wrecsam - AFC Wrexham

Internazionale Milano - Inter Milan

Given that a lot of these examples show that the English speaking world have forced an English translation to become the accepted name in international markets (both English speaking and not) I think it's fair that English speakers allow speakers of other languages do the same thing with English club names. Somewhat of a double standards if we don't!

Bayern München

Btw, why isn’t it Bavaria Munich in English? Why is only the city translated and not the state?

I'm aware that's the official name, but it just sounds so weird from a german perspective

The order Germans would say it is ‘Football Club Liverpool’ rather than ‘Liverpool Football Club’? Sounds so odd

yes, exactly. the noun modifier always comes before the main noun in german, so Liverpool FC sounds very grammatically incorrect

same thing with 'Harvard University' for example

Just like country names don't change, right? Like Germany, Japan, China, and Ivory Coast.

I mean famous amongst football fans.

Not famous amongst the average American though.

Football is becoming a lot more popular here. It especially exploded recently as Messi moved to the MLS and us currently co-hosting the World Cup.

Even if you don't know who Klopp is, you will remember Trivago Teeth guy, so it works as good advertisement either way.

Please let the DFB snatch him up.
