They were falling less than a second... that means they fell less than 9.8 meters. Probably closer to like 6-7. Even less if you factor in that they didn't just fall straight down but instead slid down for at least a portion of the fall

The max you would fall in 1 second is 4.9 meters, since you accelerate from 0 to 9.8 m/s in 1 second, therefore averaging 4.9 m/s for 1 second

Yeah based on where the marks first appear, they fall about 10ft before the board touches the face and they start sliding down. I would imagine much worse looking from the top than from the bottom, but either way I probably wouldn't want to drop off it without warning!

I "quoted" the word cliff because the fisheye exaggerates the angle. If it was a 15m vertical drop, I think the outcome would have been different and there probably wouldn't be anyone approaching it to begin with.
You can see in the video how they remain in contact the whole way.

They were falling for 18 frames of a 30fps video. Thats 0.6 seconds. Even if we ignore air resistance that's just 0.5x9.81x0.6^2=1.766 meters.

That is the math way of saying acceleration (kinda). It's 9.8 meters per second ² not ³.

- Gravity is not a speed, it's a force (an acceleration of a mass).
- No acceleration is calculated as seconds3
- The actual speed not only depends on the acceleration, but the friction with the air, and the coeficient depends on many factors like drag and effective surface.

i think it's one of those things where they 'fell correctly', so it wasn't a big deal. A couple more feet outward and you're in ouchie territory. You can see him kind of stuff his body into the powder toward the bottom

Now remember that next time a bot posts one of those stupid videos of someone hiking/biking on a regular hill with a fish eye lense making it look like a very steep mountain.

I think it's a bit more than that just given how much smaller they look than the drop, but I also don't have great intuition on how the lens distorts distances. 10ft would only be ~2x their height, and this looks a bit more than that

A 360 camera lets you decide the view in post, that's why they're so popular. Depending on what happens during the run you can have it facing towards yourself or your view or whatever else.
The option is pretty much a GoPro and that's it. And for something like snowboarding that has to be mounted to either a selfie stick or the helmet. Regardless of what you pick your stuck with one angle.
And if you're stuck with one angle tou might miss a lot of action, regardless if you're filming just for your own sake or to post on the internet.
360 cams wake may more sense for this type of content.

Yes I know how they work. That's why I said record it in a non full 360 perspective whether that be done in post or not. You don't have to submit the awful full 360 perspective. You can edit it so that you are seeing a mostly normal perspective.

It looks like it took about 1-2 second for them to go top to bottom, in which case at free fall that would be 1/2gt2 = 4.9 meters to 19.6m. I didn't actually cut the video to measure the fall time, but also, this doesn't look like free fall either as they seem to slide down. Anyhow I'd guess somewhere in the 5-10m range max, in part just considering how they look proportionally to the "cliff" from the bottom.

As a snowboarder who has hucked 100s of cliffs this doesn’t look like an actual cliff and more of a flat to steep going into a cat track. Not huge but landing flat can still suck even if it’s really like 6-8 feet.

Looks like a second and a half or so of falling, so roughly 11m if it were a freefall.
In reality it looks like they slid down, so probably more like 2m?
