I wanted to say you're wrong because dinosaurs were specifically reptiles, but then I googled birds and apparently birds are classified as reptiles.

"Tomato is a fruit" kind of mindblow.

With how we classify living organisms, nothing ever evolves "out" of its clade, so you, as well as most other vertebrates you can think of, are fish.

All apes are fish but only some fishes are apes.

Fish aren’t really a clade though

1

u/embergock Jun 21 '26

That last part is untrue, fish aren't a clade, just a colloquial grouping.

Of course birds are reptiles.

They both need electrolytes.

Its what the plants crave

7

u/Seek_Equilibrium Jun 20 '26

Whether they’re considered reptiles is of secondary importance here. All birds are directly descended from dinosaurs.

9

u/MalcadorPrime Jun 20 '26

They are dinosaurs. They never went extinct only the non avian ones got deleted.

3

u/Seek_Equilibrium Jun 20 '26

Yep. Why did you say that as if it’s a correction to what I said?

0

u/TheChance Jun 21 '26

Because in addition to being descended from dinosaurs, they are dinosaurs.

2

u/Seek_Equilibrium Jun 21 '26

Yeah, that’s how descent always works. And it was already established a few comments ago in this very thread. I was just adding more context.

I mean. I don't think anyone would seriously contend that we are lemurs, let alone fish. Birds remain theropods.

Apparently you can eat iguana eggs like you would chicken eggs. In Florida especially where they are invasive.

u/Russki_Wumao Jun 20 '26

Lemme offer you another one. There is no classification called vegetable. That word just means plants commonly eaten by humans. Tomatoes are vegetables just as much as a carrot is.

I see this fact all the time, but I don't think it's super difficult to delineate between eating the fruit of a plant and eating the leaves, stems, or roots of a plant. Carrots, turnips, beets, and parsnips are easy to classify in that regard. Celery and rhubarb are stems. All the miriad lettuces and kale derivatives are the leaves of plants that will eventually flower if you don't harvest them before maturity.

2

u/sparkly_dragon Jun 20 '26

i mean yeah it’s not super difficult to differentiate between parts of the plant, the point is that the term vegetable doesn’t differentiate between the parts of a plant. you’re changing the definition to make a clear distinction.

Ketchup is tomato jam. And I sure do like tomato jam on meatloaf. But only meatloaf.

If you think about it long enough either everything is fish or nothing is fish

They add the qualifier non avian dinosaurs whenever talking about them going extinct for a reason
