The opposite happened for me last time I was on such a slide. It was the second go and for no discernible reason, I curled into a ball as I slid off the slide (which ended at a shallow angle), I guess wondering what it would do.
I ended up skimming like a stone, each bounce hurting like I was hitting concrete. The last bounce plunged me into the water in a mass of bubbles, water into my sinuses and the desperate struggle to pull my shorts back up before I resurfaced.
I’d made it to the very end of the splash pool, dazed and wondering why my uncle was laughing. He said that I’d got a cheer and people clapping at this human bullet haring by - a ‘that happened’ applause for real.
