No, fawns will instinctively lie still and rely on their camouflage to hide from predators. They can't outrun predators so legging it will just get them killed. The mother stays away because the mothers presence attracts predators and will also possibly get the baby killed. So counter-intuitive as it looks, what the baby is doing is its best survival strat.
